Position Summary
The Deputy Director of Mortgage Operations, reporting to the Vice President of Lending and Servicing, is responsible for overseeing the successful operation of lending programs and managing a team of 10 staff members. This role requires experience in mortgage underwriting, CFPB regulations, and compliance with all mortgage-related guidelines. The Deputy Director must be a proactive leader with a background in residential mortgage lending operations, team management, and the implementation of departmental systems, policies, and strategies.

The Deputy Director will focus on staff development and provide training opportunities for the lending team. This position works closely with senior leadership to support the organization’s lending programs.

Core Responsibilities:

• Manage origination, processing, underwriting operations, and staff.
• Collaborate with leadership on staff hiring and personnel matters.
• Track deliverables and prepare internal and external reports.
• Continuously improve policies and practices to meet program goals and deliver positive outcomes for homeowners.
• Oversee procedures, loan documentation, and outreach materials for lending programs.
• Identify areas for improvement or innovation in lending operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise the Origination, Underwriting, and Processing teams.
• Provide loan-level guidance, support, and training to the underwriting team while ensuring compliance with loan origination requirements.
• Manage application and lending compliance activities for all lending programs.
• Implement and update loan programs, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure quality control of all lending programs.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• At least five (5) years of experience in residential mortgage lending or equivalent educational/work experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of underwriting experience and willingness to apply for Qualified Individual approval from the NYS Department of Financial Services.
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license.
• At least three (3) years of supervisory experience with a proven ability to lead teams.
• Experience with origination or servicing CRMs.
• Knowledge of TRID, RESPA, Fair Lending, and HMDA disclosure requirements.
• Familiarity with FNMA, SONYMA, and Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven success in innovative leadership, project planning, and problem-solving.
• Familiarity with alternative loan and grant funding preferred.
• Understanding of foreclosure-related issues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience with Salesforce, Byte, Encompass, and Mortgage Office preferred.
• Strong team player with a growth mindset and demonstrated emotional intelligence.
