LSU Health Sciences Center Division of Facility Services in New Orleans is seeking motivated applicants for the position of HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic. There are multiple vacancies.
The person applying must possess two years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
As of November 14, 1994, employees must possess the appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).
The starting pay for this position is $21.05 with an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only, rate may be adjusted based on applicants' qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Preventive maintenance work
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Work
Computerized Energy Management System
Perform minor projects as assigned on the entire campus that may include pipefitting, mechanical equipment, electrical circuits, painting and carpentry
Equipment operation and maintenance
Follows safety guidelines and procedures
Plan, price, order and pick up materials necessary for repairs using proper facility purchasing rules/regulations
Special events work and campus maintenance emergencies

This is a Civil Service Position. This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the installation, operation or maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems will substitute for the two years of required experience on a month for month basis.

Function of Work:
To provide skilled installation, maintenance, and repair on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration units in large office buildings, hospitals, and multi-building complexes.
Level of Work:
Experienced.
Supervision Received:
General from a HVAC/Refrigeration Foreman or maintenance supervisor of higher grade.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Trades Apprentice by presence of journeyman level duties.
Differs from HVAC/Refrigeration Master Mechanic by lack of responsibility for major overhaul and modification of complex large tonnage, high horsepower centrifugal chillers, and other advanced HVAC/Refrigeration systems.Repairs and maintains heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment in buildings or complexes requiring total HVAC capacity of 20 tons or more.
Performs preventive maintenance duties on motors: adding coolant, adjusting controls, changing filters, etc.
Recharges air conditioning systems with proper amount of lubricant or refrigerant.
Overhauls and repairs pumps, motors, control systems, piping, and other equipment used in refrigerating and air conditioning systems.
Reports temperatures produced by machines and makes necessary adjustments to produce desired temperatures.
Installs, replaces, adjusts, and calibrates major components of refrigeration units: compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies.
Maintains records, log sheets, inventory, etc.
Services equipment with lubricants and chemicals.
