  • Maintenance Department REPORT TO: HVAC Foreman WAGE/HOUR STATUS:

    Nonexempt PAY GRADE: AUX 7 P R I M ARY PURPOSE: The HVAC Technician is involved in the installation, maintenance, repair, or modification of all HVAC systems, circuits, and equipment; performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: High School graduate or GED Valid Texas Driver's license P referred : Five years of experience of HVAC work with a contractor P EC IAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

    Ability to perform tasks of bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, climbing, and walking. Normal mobility of fingers, hands, wrists, arms, neck, back, waist, legs, knees, and ankles. Ability to work with chemicals and/or various thinners and glues.

    Ability to bend over at the waist and twist entire trunk from side to side. Ability to reach above the head and in front of the body at least 24 inches. Ability to push and pull items up to 150 pounds.

    Ability to lift material up to 50 pounds, and carry, while walking, 25 pounds for distances up to 20 feet. Ability to stoop and kneel up to 30 times per 8 hour work shift. Ability to climb to next to last step on a 14 foot step ladder.

    Ability to walk at a pace necessary to complete work schedule. Ability to grip small hand tools and equipment with enough strength to use them in the manner intended. Knowledge and skills of the equipment, methods, materials, practices, and tools used in the HVAC trade.

    Basic knowledge and demonstrate ability to learn and apply necessary skill of the equipment, methods, materials, practices and tools used in the HVAC trade. Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions, and ability to take safety precautions, including the use of power tools and equipment consistent with the HVAC trade. Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer's manuals.

    Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships. Possession of an appropriate valid Texas vehicle operator's license. M AJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    Cooperates and supports in the performance of HVAC duties necessary to keep the District physical facilities in good repair and in use for their intended purpose. Participates in the installation and repair of equipment and controls. Participates in the installation of new or modified HVAC equipment.

    Completes preventative maintenance inspections of equipment as assigned. When directed, insures the proper HVAC repair parts, equipment, and tools are available at work site. Demonstrates ability to investigate and determine what is up-to-date information concerning applicable local, state, and national HVAC codes.

    Actively participates and completes formal training in HVAC codes, equipment, tools and methods. Must be willing to demonstrate desire to improve technical knowledge through independent research and study. Responds to emergency call-outs, as required. (7 days a week/24 hours a day). May be required to work night and/or varying shifts.

    Keeps vehicle supplied with tools and materials. Follows all safety regulations related to any and all trade areas. Performs other general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to:

    Parking lot repair. Moving furniture and equipment. Responding to emergency or crisis situations in the District.

    Type of Equipment Used: Ladders Scaffolds Safety eye goggles Small hand tools Various power tools and equipment necessary to perform required tasks Respirator HVAC diagnosis equipment CFC reclamation equipment Audio Visual Demands: Average hearing Corrected 20/20 vision Good depth perception Ability to distinguish between colors Personal Protective Equipment: Rubber gloves and goggles are required when working with any chemicals Back support belts should be worn when lifting Required Training: 1st day orientation

  • Hazardous Communication/MSDS/Fire Safety/Proper Lifting Techniques/Eye Safety. 180 Day on-the-job training and 2-Hour Asbestos Training Awareness. 24 hours of hands-on training by the HVAC Mechanic. On-going Staff Development.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following: ability to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment efficiently and effectively with frequent interruptions. Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
