North Seattle College is looking to hire an HVAC Technician in the Facilities Department.

Salary Range for this position is $59,508/yr. to $72,528/yr. (DOE)

Position Summary:

As an HVAC Technician, you will be responsible for being a key member of the team that maintains campus facilities. In this role, you will be serving as a maintenance specialist, performing skilled work in diagnostic testing, repair, and maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration, and steam distribution systems.

The facilities maintenance team plays an important role in the mission of the college, providing a safe and healthy environment for the students to achieve success.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE.

What you will be working on:

  • Installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of air handlers, air flow dampers, V belts, sheaves, pulleys, and bearings; maintains and repairs commercial refrigeration equipment used in air conditioning, ventilation, and chilled water systems.

  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs plumbing, heating, water, cooling, refrigeration, sewer and fire suppression systems.

  • Analyzes and maintains control systems that include electrical and electronic sensors and actuators; lay out, fabricate, and install mechanical, electrical, and electronic temperature and humidity controls for heating and ventilation systems; repair relays, timers, meters, and switches with local or remote computer control; reads and interprets blueprints.

  • Monitors and adjusts heat and air conditioning in buildings using automated building monitoring and control systems.

  • Operates and maintains fluid and electronic testing and measuring instruments, such as manometers, air flow and liquid flow meters, volt meters, ammeters, and potentiometers; keeps records of work performed and supplies used.

  • Use all types of hand and power tools such tools as drill presses, grinders, bandsaws, hand drills, testers, welding equipment, soldering guns, small hand tools and specialized apparatus.

  • Estimates times and orders materials and supplies needed to maintain equipment in good working condition; manage inventories and materials needed for each job.

  • Leads and instructs helpers, patients, or inmates.

  • Prepares surfaces for welding; uses arc or acetylene welding and burning equipment.

  • Read, interpret, and update blueprints.

  • Use automated building monitoring and control systems.

  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of HVAC systems.

  • Install, fabricate, and connect various HVAC components.

  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and professionally.

  • Maintain professionalism and excellent customer service at all times.

  • Communicate effectively with customers, management, and dispatchers.

  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn Microsoft Office and Outlook.

  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other backgrounds and cultures.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • 5 years' experience with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment (HVAC) systems which include the performance of skilled work in diagnostic testing, repair, and maintenance of HVAC and steam distribution systems.

  • Journey-level standing as HVAC mechanic or steamfitter, or equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical trades and HVAC work; principles of operation of HVAC systems; occupational hazards and safety practices of HVAC trade.

  • Preferred: certified gas mechanic, Level 4 Boiler license, BAT license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Moderate physical effort which may include, standing, walking, and lifting or moving heavy parcels, machines of up to 50 pounds.

  • Frequent activities requiring full body exertion.

  • Indoor/outdoor work environment with some exposure to weather extremes.
