Position Overview:

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the support of facilities' heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment as well as plumbing repairs and installations of equipment and fixtures in break rooms and restrooms. This is a non-exempt, non-supervisory position, reporting directly to the Director of Facilities.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Installing, maintaining, dismantling, repairing, overhauling, and rebuilding pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic HVAC equipment including boilers, heat exchangers, chillers, cooling towers, chemical injection pumps for hot and cold water loops, packaged air conditioner and furnace rooftop units, ventilation fans, etc.

  • Performing preventive maintenance duties including filter changes, cleaning, inspecting, lubricating

  • Performing traditional maintenance and troubleshooting on electrical power/wire hook ups up to 480 volts 3 phase and 24VAC control voltage

  • Analyzing equipment problems resulting from mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic malfunctions

  • Sharing the on-call off hours duties for one month at a time with the rest of the Facilities team

  • Attending work safety meetings as required

  • Complying with all company personnel policies and practices as well as all federal, state, and local standards/requirements

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to weld/braze with OA, MIG, and Stick welders

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance

  • Ability to climb and work on scaffolds and ladders

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Exhibit exceptional planning and organization skills

  • Should be highly adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to work autonomously

  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively and independently

  • Ability and desire to problem-solve, prioritize, and multi-task

Experience/knowledge:

  • Journeyman or vocational school diploma in HVAC or a minimum of three years of HVAC or electromechanical work experience

  • Knowledge in the use and operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment

  • Low pressure steam boiler operation (2 to 3 years' experience)

  • Centrifugal chillers and cooling tower operation (2 to 3 years' experience)

  • Basic microcomputer skills necessary to understand the operation and interfacing characteristics of microprocessors. This includes I/O and interfacing concepts, software interaction, programming languages, and techniques

  • PLC operations to include basic system configurations and hardware, data manipulation, data communications

  • Electric motor drive technologies including: AC variable frequency, AC servo, DC servo, closed-loop systems, electronic and mechanical clutch/brake, and encoders
