HVAC Technician II

Primary Purpose:

Maintain District facilities, HVAC and refrigeration equipment in such a manner that no disruption occurs to the instructional program

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma

  • Possess a Type I and II refrigerant certification.

  • Completion of an Accredited HVAC Program or Associates Degree in AC&R

  • Valid Texas Driver's License

Special Knowledge/Skills:

None.

Experience:

  • 5 Years of Successful HVAC & Ref experience

  • Alternatives to the above qualifications the administration deems appropriate

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Routine servicing of installed air conditioning and refrigeration systems including, compressors, condensers, valves, coils, cooling towers, heat pumps, motors, belts, bearings, fans, filters, piping, wiring, control systems, thermostats, ducting, heat exchangers, pumps, actuators, and other appurtenances.

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctioning systems and components.

  • Interpret engineering drawings and equipment manuals related to air conditioning and refrigeration systems and component parts.

  • Perform replacement of major and minor parts, components, or entire systems.

  • Performs overhauls on major equipment components.

  • Perform regular scheduled inspections of facilities and HVAC systems.

  • Monitor Maintenance Department maintenance management system, complete assigned tasks in accordance with Department goals and guidelines. Complete assigned work requests by accurately entering technician comments, labor and material costs in accordance with Department goals. Fill out District forms and maintains electronic maintenance records as directed.

  • Compile, catalog and maintain inventory of supplies, materials, tools and equipment utilizing the inventory management module of the maintenance management system for items issued to worker or assigned vehicle. Issue inventoried parts and materials on work requests so accurate inventory of parts is maintained.

  • Assist other maintenance personnel as needed and directed by supervisor.

  • Perform such other duties as the superintendent or designee may assign

  • Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.

  • Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.

  • Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.

  • Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.

  • Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. rates light truck (less than 26,000 lbs.), hand tools, power tools, ladder, dolly, scaffolding, lifts, meters, refrigerant recovery equipment, and other equipment peculiar to air conditioning and refrigeration work. Utilize safety equipment and clothing as required by District.

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. Continual walking and standing, climbing, stooping, bending and reaching; heavy lifting and carrying.

Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting and carrying

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel. Work is performed on or near operating equipment. Ability to operate a motor vehicle (light truck). Exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, odors and slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work at ground level, on ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and on roofs.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress. Reading; ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations; understand verbal and written instructions, ability to get along with other workers and work in teams

Salary: Pay Grade 0S07, $24.16 - $28.62 hourly rate commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule. Days: 261 Start Date: 2024-06-24 00:00:00.000
