JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems, and equipment for the District, including kitchen equipment. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC equipment and systems in District facilities.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain, assemble or install, diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of HVAC equipment and systems following established procedures.

• Help or assist in daily tasks as directed by the HVAC Lead and or HVAC Supervisor.

• Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established procedures.

• Receive and complete work orders, maintaining accurate records on material and labor used.

• Maintain Freon dispensing records to meet Federal requirements.

• Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

• Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.

• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.

• Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

• Assist other crafts to complete surveys, projects and repairs of all District facilities.

• Maintain, repair or assist with repairs on dishwashers, vent hoods and kitchen equipment.

• Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.

• Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.

• Inspect tools, vehicle and equipment for safety, efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.

• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.

• Follow established chain of command procedures.

• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.

• Maintain confidentiality.

• Regular attendance.

• Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of four years of verifiable HVAC experience

• Commercial HVAC experience required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Type Universal Certification per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Federal Clean Air Action Section-608 or obtain within 90 days of employment.

• Valid Texas driving license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Good communication skills (written and verbal)

• Working knowledge of state and local HVAC codes

• Ability to read and understand construction specifications and drawings

• Ability to lead and instruct apprentice

• Knowledge in HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques

• Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations

• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

• Ability to use hand and power tools

• Ability to work with and have knowledge of HVAC systems

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Continual walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Working in tiring and uncomfortable positions around equipment with high speed moving parts. Ability to lift 50 pounds above head. Working in and around equipment panels with high voltage electrical connections. Working with or around high-pressure refrigerants, gas and air lines. Working with or around equipment where combustion of flammable gasses are present. Exposure to dampness, excessive noises, gas lines, extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic and or corrosive chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuel. Frequent District wide travel.

SALARY:

PAY GRADE: AUX - 8 - Minimum hourly rate - $25.75
