Under general supervision, installs, maintains, tests, and repairs City of Bryan refrigeration and HVAC systems and monitors and repairs building management and building access control systems.
Essential Job Functions
Services, installs, and repairs HVAC and refrigeration systems (coolers, ice machines, mini-splits, etc.) using technical skills, mechanical proficiency, and knowledge of HVAC systems; inspects work to verify quality and safety compliance standards.
Reviews work orders, identifies material and equipment needs for each assigned projects, defines and troubleshoots maintenance and repair issues, and resolves problems with cost-effective solutions.
Inspects, tests, calibrates, installs, and repairs HVAC systems, components, controls, and devices; performs maintenance and preventive maintenance; verifies maintenance and repair issues are properly identified, addressed, and resolved.
Examines HVAC system failures and equipment malfunctions; determines cause and makes repairs.
Maintains documentation/records of services performed and equipment installed as required.
Assists other staff as needed with general facility maintenance work.
Adheres to after-hours, weekend, and holiday standby requirements as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Must possess at least eight (8) years of work experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.

Demonstrate proficiency in use of all tools and equipment appropriate to job responsibilities.
Understand and follow specific verbal instructions and detailed written procedures and instructions.
Perform work independently based upon broad instructions and general supervision.
Perform moderate to heavy manual labor outdoors in temperature extremes for extended periods.
Read and understand technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, sketches, and diagrams for the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC equipment and components.
Test, diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC equipment and systems.
Maintain accurate and complete records utilizing maintenance management software.
Take the initiative to learn individual job tasks and continue to broaden knowledge levels by willingly accepting new responsibilities and attending training to advance skills.
Handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize work assignments, and meet established deadlines.
Comply with City and departmental administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
Remain constantly alert and aware of any workplace hazards and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing accidents.
Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the area of responsibility.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.
EPA Universal Technician Certification or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
Must be available for after-hour calls as needed.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, crawling, climbing, and using hands and fingers to operate equipment and to lift, carry, or move objects up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. While in the field this position is exposed to inclement weather, temperature extremes, loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, cramped/confined spaces, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, chemicals, odors, fumes, dust, pollen, and other airborne particles.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: hand and power tools, electrical test equipment, light equipment, and trucks (including bucket trucks).
