MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required upon hire)
Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience with commercial HVAC systems
Possess CFC Certification
Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of hire)
Valid NYS Driver's License (copy required upon hire)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possess EPA Section 608 Technician Certification
5+ years of commercial HVAC experience
3+ years of Plumbing experience
Good communication and organizational skills
Experience working with adolescents
REQUIREMENTS
Must successfully complete all required background checks:
HOURS
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program
On-call as needed for emergency situations
SALARY
$25.00-$30.00/hour
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Be able to handle all the physical responsibilities of the position, which includes but is not limited to lifting, moving, and prolonged periods of standing
Must be able to successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
OBJECTIVES OF POSITION
Responsible for maintaining, repairing, modifying, installing, and monitoring HVAC systems, controls, appliances, and equipment in new and existing facilities to meet the specifications and approved codes to ensure adequate, safe, and operable facilities.
Employees in this job also function as part-time Vocational Instructors for the youth assigned to their specific skilled trade area, providing a positive work experience that emphasizes the development of a good work ethic and vocational skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Trade Specific:
Monitors the performance of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems for the campus; performs standard repair/replacement of components as appropriate and non-technical tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan units, adjustment of system controls, and replacement of filters.
Operates, cleans, and performs preventative maintenance/repairs on various refrigeration units, including absorption, compressors, heat exchangers, ice machines, and cooling freezers.
Prepare forms for permits and inspections.
Install, inspect, and service electric motors and controls, domestic hot water, and electric baseboard heaters.
Maintain and repair refrigerator units, air compressors, air handling units, exhaust fans, and circulating pumps; maintain and repair equipment, tools, and work areas.
Install and maintain all hot water, steam, and hot air heating units.
Work with sheet metal to construct exhaust stacks and heating ducts.
Maintains, repairs, and installs appliances and equipment, including, but not limited to, air compressors, boilers, hot water heaters, softeners, stills, water filtration units, pipes, pumps, kitchen equipment, washers, and dryers.
Interprets blueprints and drawings to assess specifications and calculate the materials and equipment required. Completes skilled HVAC constructions, remodels, and repairs according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes.
Monitor and troubleshoot major HVAC breakdowns by diagnosing trouble and repairing, replacing, or taking other corrective action for items such as rooftop units, mini-split systems, baseboard hydronic heat systems, chiller systems, and water, and air-sourced heat pumps.
Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs.
Reviews finished projects with customers. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations.
Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Vocational Instructor:
Upon hiring into the program, assess the youth's interests and knowledge of the Vocational Program specific to your trade area.
Instructs youth in a skilled trade to prepare them for employment upon discharge.
Plan and conduct on-the-job training activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides youth with opportunities to observe, question, and participate in..
Instruct youth in the proper and safe care of work areas and all applicable equipment; stress safety at all times.
Be prepared and in a position to begin work in accordance with the Vocational Program time schedules; ensure that assigned youth are properly supervised at all times and maintain attendance and work schedule records.
Enforce established dress, conduct, and behavior codes appropriate to the Vocational Program area.
Communicate and document significant behaviors or incidents on behalf of youth.
Maintain all trade-related, Vocational Program, and youth records and paperwork in a timely, organized way.
Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with all rules, regulations, policies, and safety standards of The William George Agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services while upholding our mission, vision, and values.
