JOB SUMMARY The role of the Startup Technician is to manage and perform startup activities and system performance evaluations on new construction and existing building projects of all types. The Startup Technician will also be a part of the final Commissioning team and will participate in total system checkout as well as functional system testing activities and resolution of all operational deficiencies identified as part of this process. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Complete project reviews with project team before starting a project * Manage and perform all startup activities on a variety of project types and sizes * Document all startup activities in our paperless Commissioning documentation systems * Maintain a current deficiency list of issues found during startup * Communicate job status with the project management team daily and report any issues that may impede job progress or schedule * Assist the Commissioning project management team with equipment and system startup scheduling * Assist the Commissioning project management team with communicating technical detail to vendors or factory representatives as needed to repair manufacturers defects in equipment * Mentor Startup Group apprentices in the performance of assigned duties * Troubleshoot system problems, provide solutions, and manage problem resolution through the project management team * Assist Test and Balance and manufacturers' representatives in resolving issues that impact the performance of the systems within our responsibility or scope of work * Supervise other Startup Technicians and Apprentices as applicable * Coordinate with other trades to keep the construction schedule on track * Assist the Senior level Commissioning Technicians with Commissioning activities as applicable BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * 3 years commercial HVAC mechanical equipment startup or service experience * High school diploma or GED * Technical School degree in HVAC or experience in the HVAC industry * Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver's license and clean driving record. Employees in this classification must maintain insurability during the term of employment PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience in the construction industry, preferably with a mechanical contractor, TAB contractor or DDC controls contractor * At least 2 years' experience managing mechanical related work * Experience in servicing boilers and chillers * Pneumatic and DDC controls * Experience commissioning new construction and existing building projects. * MCAA 40 hour foreman training * OSHA 30 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS * Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team or independently as required * Strong leadership skills, self-motivated, team-oriented, and able to respond quickly to changing customer demands * Must have good communication skills * Solid reasoning, math, science, and technical skills * Must have a professional appearance * Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals * Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance * Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others * Good computer skills WORKING CONDITIIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS * Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises * Work environment involves some exposure to construction-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions * Basic construction working conditions walking or standing most of the time and lifting some loads to 50 pounds. * Work requires extensive local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations Moving Safety Forward, our initiative for continuous improvements in our safety culture, reminds us that we are on a journey toward a zero-incident culture.
