We are looking for an HVAC / Plumbing Design Engineer for our Seattle, WA office!

This position is the responsible delivery of engineering services, from conceptual design through construction completion.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with engineering design project planning (i.e., conceptual design through construction drawing development)

  • Complete code-required energy compliance and LEED documentation

  • Conduct engineering calculations, energy analysis, economic analysis, selection and layout of equipment, duct and piping /plumbing system design

  • Understanding of applications engineering including psychrometrics, refrigeration, acoustics, and controls systems

  • Assist with coordination of design and installation with Project Management, Construction and Service departments, Controls, and other trade partners.

  • Field engineering: assist with project execution, site surveys, trade coordination, scheduling, document management and problem-solving

  • Computer 2D and 3D modeling of HVAC or plumbing systems utilizing the latest modeling software

  • Effectively and professionally communicate with colleagues and project team members

  • Manage time to meet project schedules and task deadlines

  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Engineering or Construction Management

  • Prior intern experience with the mechanical contractor and/or engineering consultant preferred, but not required

  • EIT Certificate highly desirable, but not required

  • Excellent understanding of Engineering fundamentals

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit or similar drafting software preferred

Hours:

Monday through Friday beginning between 7:00 and 8:00 am and ending between 4:00 and 5:00 pm, with one hour for lunch. Eight hours per day is required, and occasional overtime may be necessary.

Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. This position may also be required to climb stairs and ladders.

These products shall incorporate leading edge infrastructure technology and developed to facilitate high degrees of manufacturing (i.e. prefabrication), constructability, and cost efficiency. The perfect candidate will also have strong communication skills, experience performing alternative analyses, experience working with cross-functional teams or in integrated project delivery approaches, and most importantly be driven to challenge 'typical' approaches. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The Sr. Plumbing Engineer will be a member of Katerra's Building Product Engineering team. His/her responsibility will include, but is not limited to: * Lead/support front end loading for plumbing engineering on building products. * Engineer plumbing systems including preliminary water, gray water, solar heating, sanitary/sewer, and rainwater harvesting. * Perform lifecycle cost analyses and energy analyses associated with plumbing * Develop plumbing floor plans and elevations for internal and external spaces. * Develop device/system specifications and Basis of Design documentation. * Oversee, review, or participate in detailing, BIM modeling, and high LOD plumbing design. * Partial/support development and review of Fire sprinkler system designs and potentially mechanical system/storage designs. * Perform EOR duties for prototype or first-build deployments of new Katerra Building platforms. Including owning of permit set packages and review of installation sets/models. * Perform rigorous value engineering of plumbing system designs factoring in costs, constructability, and manufacturability (i.e. prefabrication) and working with the product leads and other resources * Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, architecture, etc. to develop high quality building products. Required Skills & Experience * Bachelors Mechanical Engineering or similar. * Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in at least one U.S. state with the potential for reciprocity in all U.S. states. * Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) and active ASPE membership. * 5+ years as 'Engineer of Record' or 'Lead Engineer' for completed building projects * 4+ year of experience reviewing submittal packages for mechanical, plumbing, or fire sprinkler systems installations. * 2+ years of experience as an engineer or lead designer on commercial buildings, residential or mixed-used buildings. * 2+ years of experience as an engineer or lead designer on mission-critical facilities (i.e. data centers), industrial plants, or health-care facilities. * 1+ years performing value engineering for mechanical or plumbing construction projects. * Advanced knowledge and active experience in all the following tools: AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office suite. * Working knowledge of the International Plumbing Code (IPC), the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) Preferred Skills & Experience * Working knowledge of the California Plumbing Code (CPC) and the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC) * 2+ years of experience performing cost/time estimating or project management for mechanical or plumbing construction projects. * 1+ years of experience as the main point of contact for the plumbing discipline in integrated project delivery (IPD) projects. * Experience in software or technology product development or engineering * Experience working at a company that performs prefabrication for mechanical or plumbing assemblies. * Experience with CLT and concrete buildings. * LEED A.P. certification.
