SUMMARY: Reports directly to the Director of Facilities. To provide general maintenance support for the District.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist HVAC Technician as needed

  • Performs preventive maintenance (e.g. filters, belts, and bearings)

  • Responds to emergency situations for purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

  • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Marginal Functions:

  • Adjust temperature in buildings as required

  • Maintain awareness of new technology applicable to the field

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from a general or technical high school, and/or an Associate degree preferred

  • Possession of Universal EPA Refrigeration Certificate License and a minimum of three to four years of Apprenticeship level HVAC experience

  • Electrical abilities up to 480 volts

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent communication and listening skills

  • Knowledge of design techniques and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

  • Knowledge of electric circuit boards, processors, chips, and computer hardware and software, including building automation system.

  • Ability to work with numbers, their operations, and interrelationship including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment of the HVAC trade

  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precaution of the HVAC trade

  • Ability to work from blueprints, sketches and specifications

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle

  • Have a valid driver's license

  • Sitting, Standing, Walking, Climbing, Balancing, Stooping or Crouching, Kneeling, Crawling, Reaching, Pushing, Grasping, Talking, Hearing.

  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less.

  • Medium work - exert up to 10 pounds of force continuously, and/or over 60 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move including the human body

  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform assigned tasks.

  • Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a signification degree; on feet 7 out of 8 hours per day

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Work is routinely performed inside and outside conditions

  • Must be able to withstand extreme temperatures as well as potentially hazardous environments

Salary: Scale 2 Range on the District Maintenance Salary Schedule (Salary Range $15.85/hr -$25.36/hr)

Benefits of a Tower Technician Apprentice: * Will train the right individual from the ground up with on-the-job-training * Military Veteran friendly employer * Pay is based on prior experience and can range from $17-22/hr * PTO, 401k * Health, Dental, Vision * Long and Short Term Disability Responsibilities of a Tower Technician Apprentice: * Assist in the installation of all aspects of wireless cell site foundations * Installation of up-top equipment including masts, clamping, bracing, supports, antennas, RRUs, cabling, bolting, true up, shooting proper azimuth within tolerances, reading maps and a compass, torque to spec, labeling, picture-taking, documentation, plumb and tilt readings with smart level, etc. * Assemble monopole, all weld and knock down self-support and guyed towers * Antenna installation of microwave parabolic 1 to 15 foot, VHF, UHF, cellular and FM broadcast antennas * Transmission line and installation of foam or air dielectric coaxial, hardline and elliptical wave-guides * Assist in the preparation of cleanup of sites * Responsible for tool inventory and upkeep daily on job site. * Other duties as assigned * Ability to travel up to 75-100% of the time depending on company needs Requirements of a Tower Technician Apprentice: Education: * High School diploma or general education degree (GED); related trade school education preferred Technical Skills: * Ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical or electrical connections * Ability to operate aerial lifts, man lifts, skid steers and aerial platform equipment * Must have or obtain documented Authorized Climber & Competent Climber/Rescue certification from an accredited institution that meets the federal standards * Must have or obtain OSHA Construction 10 HR Safety Training Card issued by the US Department of Labor * Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR certification * Must have completed an RF/EME safety course from a competent provider with documentation * Industrial first aid and rescue training * Mechanical aptitude with hand tools preferred Soft Skills: * Strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal ,verbal and written communication skills * Ability to motivate, lead, teach and train on proper work and safety procedures * Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions * Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently when required Physical Requirements: * Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background, fit for duty examination and drug testing * Must be able to climb and perform work at various heights, up to 400+ feet, for long periods of time * Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes * Must be able to pull his/her own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly for long periods of time * Must be willing to travel out of market/state, for up to several months at a time * May be required to work long and unpredictable hours * Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather Learning Alliance Corporation (LAC) is focused on providing our transitioning military service members and veterans in our community with support to overcome the roadblocks associated with sustainable employment opportunities.
