Amentum is seeking an HVAC Lead to join our team in Washington, DC! As an HVAC Lead, you will operate, repair, troubleshoot, maintain, and manage the control systems and associated subsystems; as well as coordinate with the designated liaison on all current and future modification to the BMS. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance US government security clearance.

The responsibilities of the Lead are to ensure all major activity is entered in the daily log; log into Archibus and print tickets for the next shift; support Foreman to ensure shifts are covered prior to approving leave requests; ensure relief is on-sight before authorizing staff to leave;

brief the incoming shift of all major issues; ensure all paperwork (PMs, WOs, WO requests, etc.) is completed properly and turned in on time and ensure staff properly sign in/out of their shifts and recording hours accurately.

In addition to the Lead duties, the selected candidate will perform HVAC Journeyman duties to include but not limited to: install, service and repair environmental-control systems in office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, and installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools. The selected candidate will also cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cut and thread pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment, joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant, installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit. The selected candidate will connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source; installs

air and water filters in completed installation, injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure. The selected candidate will observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution, wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands, replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, may install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and small factory buildings. The selected candidate will diagnose control system concerns and ensure occupancy comfort; troubleshoot local controllers, communication wiring, programs, and schedules; ensuring proper set-points, schedules and sequences of operation are correctly programmed; performing preventative maintenance tasks; recognize and identify opportunities to conserve building energy as it relates to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as needed.

  • Must be a US Citizen.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

  • Must have HVAC Journeyman certification OR either a DC 3rdStationary Engineer license OR a MD 1stStationary Engineer license OR a building automation system (BAS) operator certification.

  • Knowledge/certification to work on refrigeration systems is required.

  • Ability to lift 45 lbs.

  • Computer Skills- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • BAS training (Siemens APOGEE; BACnet; or equivalent) is preferred.
