A Day in the Life of an HVAC Installer

As an HVAC Installer, the right individual will work as part of a dynamic and passionate team to demonstrate technical competency and exceed customer expectations by accomplishing the highest quality installations, every time. The ideal candidate will complete jobs efficiently and accurately and make customers happy.

They will use their ability to know how to establish customer rapport to ensure highest levels of satisfaction. HVAC Installers will show themselves as professional and knowledgeable to win new referrals and repeat business. In addition, they'll adhere to the company's plan for resolving customer complaints quickly and favorably.

HVAC Installers will maintain a clean, organized job site and well-inventoried truck. Their excellent verbal and written communication skills will help them to be accurate and timely with invoices and time sheets.

What you Need to be Qualified for the HVAC Installer position

In order to be qualified for the HVAC Installer position, a minimum of 2 years' residential install experience is required.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

A proven track record in heating and cooling systems is required including the ability to draw simple diagrams, read blueprints and other diagrams. A clean, safe driving record is required as well. HVAC Installers need to be highly organized with exceptional follow-through abilities along with strong verbal and written communication skills.

This individual's passion about the HVAC industry and high integrity with advanced social skills will help in their ability to make solid connections. A strong desire to be a better Installer tomorrow than you are today with an outgoing personality that blends well with a fast-paced, goal-driven environment is imperative. HVAC Installers must be able to pass a drug test(s) and background check(s) as required by our company.

The successful candidate will provide the Department an on-site technical trade technician of HVAC installations and coordinating the on-site inmate labor resource training and supervision of Force Account construction services, functioning in the capacity of a single-prime contractor, to perform the construction of complex, multi-million dollar projects. This individual will coordinate with job site supervision to ensure construction schedule compliance through interpreting mechanical construction plans and specifications, determining manpower needs and allocation of inmate labor resources to complete daily construction activities, and provide quality control for workmanship and compliance with contract documents. This individual will generate weekly construction reports on work accomplished, daily tool inventories, inspection and check in of HVAC material delivered to the site, assist in maintaining as-built drawings, documenting HVAC test / balance reports, and assuring that all project close out documents are in order. Extensive knowledge with chillers, gas fired boilers, DX air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, various types of pumps, DDC control systems, and older pneumatic control systems installation and maintenance is required. This position is assigned a duty-station located State Owned work vehicle for standard business use and overnight stays when required. Standard work days and times are Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Listed below are the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) associated with this position. These KSA's, along with the Minimum Education and Experience Requirements listed, are required in order to be deemed "eligible" for the position. Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following: * This position requires THREE (3) years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems. * Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F. * Working knowledge of and experience with HVAC commercial, institutional and/or governmental construction projects. * Comprehensive knowledge of construction industry safety requirements. * Ability to comprehend and interpret construction plans and specifications. * Ability to train and supervise other workers, including inmate labor resources. * A valid Driver's License. Management Preferences: * Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC installations for new construction, renovation, and/or major maintenance of commercial, institutional, or governmental projects, including but not limited to, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, centrifugal and reciprocal compressors, (BAU) building automation systems, (DDC) Direct Digital Controls, and/or pneumatic control systems. * Knowledge of and experience installing and troubleshooting chillers, gas fired boilers, DX air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, various types of pumps, DDC control systems, and older pneumatic control systems. * Refrigerant License Type II or Universal License. * Skill in the operation of various construction equipment (light and heavy).
