What does an EHVAC Engineer do at Rinnai?

Provide engineering support and product development to the design, application, marketing and sales efforts of Rinnai's Space and Water Heating products of North America (heat pump water and space systems, boilers, air handler units, direct vent furnaces, vent free convectors, and other space and water heating products). This will provide for a mix of talent and experiences to complement the engineering task expectations of developing comprehensive products, applications and solutions for both Commercial and Residential marketplace. Provide project leadership in support of the development of new products and applications that drive the company growth.

What you will do:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and support the planning of engineering analysis, product design and development for space and water heating products and systems that meet and exceed product / program requirements.

  • Support the development of test plans including application development, field testing, certification, and reliability assessment.

  • Develop and support solutions to optimize heat pump water and space heating systems and boilers for efficiency, performance and reliability.

  • Work in partnership with product performance and certification teams to ensure products meet performance and regulatory requirements.

  • Support the development of application solutions for both Commercial and Residential products to ensure expected and reliable product performance.

  • Create and document technical data generated for assigned projects.

  • Develop and support engineering analysis to ensure successful product development.

  • Interface with other engineers and assist with multiple assignments as needed.

  • Develop and support the development of technical literature for Rinnai space and water heating products.

  • Embrace new product development processes and practices.

  • Support a collaborative environment and drive knowledge sharing throughout the engineering group.

  • Actively develop new product applications and / or product solutions to support the marketplace growth of Rinnai.

  • Embrace and support growing business demands in a changing environment.

  • Various projects as requested.

  • Awareness and compliance of Company Policies and Procedures.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Related Field.

  • Experience in engineering applications and product development fields related heat pump systems, boilers and other HVAC products is a plus.

  • Understanding of ASHRAE, NEEA, ANSI, CSA, DOE, AHRI, Energy Star standards, processes and testing methods and requirements related to heat pump water and space heating systems, solo and combi boilers, HVAC products, direct vent furnaces, and vent free convectors is a plus.

  • Experience with mechanical systems, and space and water heating product development and application.

  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D software.

  • Experience in HVAC design software (e.g. Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, EnergyPlus) is a plus.

  • Experience developing products via New Product Development process (Stage Gate Process).

SKILLS

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Technical proficiency in engineering principles.

  • Good planning and organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize.

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of engineering teams.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Understanding of Certification standards as they apply to gas fired products is a plus.

  • Experience with the following engineering tools would be desirable. Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiment.
