What you will do

The HVAC Project Management Consultant/ Sr Design Engineer is part of our Building Technologies & Solutions business at Johnson Controls. This person will work with a high profile customer in the area handling HVAC projects for this client's buildings in various states. Will be the subject matter expert in project design through construction interacting with our local teams. Ideal candidate will have an engineering degree within the construction industry with design and project management background, must be able to handle multiple projects at one time. Limited travel in this role. Exciting opportunity!

Under general direction, the HVAC Project Mgt Consultant provides a full range of support services to the Strategic Account team in the development of all Assessments, Proposals, Pricing, Logistics and Engineering documentation, developing each Project in preparation for booking and transfer to the Project Management leads. Assists with development of project scope and acts as the "Subject Matter Expert" during project development leveraging a detailed understanding of the customer's requirements and specifications. Supports the project team with project mobilizations. Exercising sound and appropriate judgement in the deployment and implementation of process strategies to affect the required contractual and operational objectives.

How you will do it

  • Provides leadership in all Pre-Sales activities to define project objectives and scope.

  • Works with client to understand and ensure alignment with all engineering standards. As technology and offerings grow, educate client to help meet their needs and grow Johnson Controls' business. As customer's needs progress/change, ensure standards are discussed and adapted accordingly. If execution issues due to the client's standards occur and can be modified to avoid said issues, discuss with the client to modify their standards as necessary.

  • Be an advocate for the client. Protect their interests at all times from standards creation to project conceptualization through execution.

  • Works with engineering to develop and oversee standard engineering processes to ensure consistent delivery and customer satisfaction. This plan, at a minimum, would include standard drawing definitions.

  • Work with Johnson Controls application engineering team to standardize and optimize special quote process. Include factory technical experts in client meetings when new technology is discussed, if needed.

  • Provides technical support, selections and limited estimating support to Account Execs during project design or proposal phase. Assists as needed in developing the customer business case for the conceptual solution.

  • Supports detailed estimating of projects for Strategic Account managers to finalize and present to clients. Validates assumptions made during proposal and development phase. Builds a detailed cost estimate and scope of work for assigned projects in conjunction with Sales. Assists in preparing proposals and other customer communication documents.

  • Follows standardized submittal generation guidelines for preparation and processing of equipment engineering submittals, including but not limited to; final coil selection, coil hand coordination, fan selection, chiller performance verification, chiller configuration and option selection so as to match schedule, drawing and specification requirements.

  • Verifies that Johnson Controls has an "approved" equipment submittal and positive configuration acceptance by the installing contractor prior to releasing equipment for fabrication.

  • Assist in development of initial project summary and specific plans and schedules.

  • Assists in the development of scope definition and work breakdown structure.

  • Resource loads schedule, outlines performance-reporting baselines.

  • Trains Regional resources in the correct use of JCI process and tools.

  • Reviews and interprets contract Terms and Conditions.

  • Assists the Region in the development of risk management plan and quantitative analysis.

  • Provides cost and estimate analysis.

  • Acts as facilitator for project risk identification.

  • Evaluates and reviews subcontract preparation, strategies and format.

  • Evaluate the performance of strategic projects and provide reports to Regional and Corporate Management Teams as necessary.

  • Assists project team with review of planning, scheduling or cost requirements as required during project implementation.

  • Provides on-site training to facilitate project control and plan maintenance by project team.

  • Reviews and analyzes proposals.

  • Provides project development and delivery support.

  • Provides internal mentoring and training in project development.

  • Provides input into the development and maintenance of Construction Management templates for project plans and schedules.

What we look for

Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Prefer 5 plus years of proven track record handling HVAC project design and project management experience within the construction industry.

Computer skills experience to include: Microsoft Office suite, (with emphasis on Word, Excel and Visio) Adobe Writer, and basic Windows operating system environment. AutoCad experience is preferred.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good organizational skills with attention to detail. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both internal and external customers. Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage a large and diverse number of projects with professionalism, cooperation, and persistence.
