Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Perform technical work in the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) automated control systems and the maintenance of building automated Energy Management Systems (EMS) at the National Advocacy Center and other Department of Justice leased spaces/properties.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and 5 or more years related experience, or an applicable skilled trade or building automation program and 3 or more years related experience or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Proficient working knowledge of HVAC controls and Energy Management systems, knowledge of mechanical equipment, pumping and steam systems, chilled and hot water systems, as well as, a sound knowledge of air conditioning, heating, ventilation, electrical, and other related trades. Ability to read low voltage and controls flow diagrams, and proficient with testing instruments and calibration tools. Must have the ability to lead by example, work well with peers and outside departments and other business professionals. Must be able to solve problems, take initiative, develop strong customer relationships, measure cost and performance, keep accurate records, develop proper procedures, and communicate effectively.

  • Maintains and follows a safe, productive, cost effective, and comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for constant and reliable operations relating to building automated HVAC control systems.

  • Ability to perform startup and/or commissioning of Building Automation Systems and HVAC Controls

Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and making repairs to variable speed drives and other building control systems.

  • Must be proficient with troubleshooting multi-meter, voltmeter, current meter, refrigerant gauges, and other mechanical test and measurement instruments.

  • Ability to manage service contracts to include inspection of vendor workmanship and follow up on all HVAC vendor corrective actions.

  • Ability to document, request, and follow up on all warranty work.

  • Responsible for assisting other trades within the department and University Facilities staff with repairs to include pump replacements, repairs to commercial kitchen equipment, plumbing supply and drainage piping systems, and other related systems comprising the building's mechanical utility system.

  • Ability to lead, manage, & coordinate moderate to complex HVAC & BAS projects.

  • Communicate effectively to leadership & customers project schedules, changes to project scope & costs, and ability to document all project notes & updates in a computerized management system.
