What you will do

Under specific direction, performs preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of electronic control systems (including troubleshooting of systems). Works with assigned Controls Technician mentor to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on site, customer interface. Properly completes required project and service documentation.

How you will do it

  • Works with Controls Technicians on diagnostics and repair of complex system malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems. Tests system software in multiple programming languages.

  • Works with mentor to develop the ability to draw sketches and control design functionality.

  • Communicates with customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Assists the Controls Technician to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with the assigned mentor and customer to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the nature of service provided and outstanding issues. In conjunction with the Controls Technician, promotes the sale of add-on work.

  • Adheres to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards.

  • Compiles assigned job documentation, such as preventative maintenance documentation, service tickets and punch lists.

  • Participates in training classes as assigned and conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to develop technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications and develops technical proficiencies as required by the company.

What we look for


Vocational School or Associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field or two years' experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry. Generally preferred knowledge includes HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing

techniques. Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts, with a professional appearance and attitude. PC experience required and the ability to program software highly desired.

Responsible for complex or custom hardware and software designs as well as commissioning for all low voltage systems on assigned projects. The SE leverages their experience to create high quality and project requirements. The SE uses their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follows our safety procedures, organizes and documents their work, complies with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) laws and our standards of ethics, and provides timely and professional responses to customer requests. The SE impacts Segment Income by providing quality designs, minimizing rework, and by identifying change order and value engineering opportunities. How you will do it This individual must be an analytical thinker and must be disciplined in applying robust design methodologies and engineering principles (modeling, simulation, data acquisition etc.) to develop and realize solutions. This individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently but must also be able to interface directly with electronics engineers, mechanical engineers, software developers, systems engineers and research engineers to develop system-wide solutions. Qualified candidates will be able to present a history of technical individual contributions and examples of working on or leading a project from requirements to deployment. An ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about HVAC equipment, its operating characteristics, building automation and have prior experience working in an industrial area related to the above disciplines. What we look for BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical Software and/or Controls Engineering. Minimum 1-3 years of experience. Demonstrated ability to take a project through design to final deployment. Must have a strong background in one or more of the following; control system design, feedback control theory, system modeling, thermodynamics/heat transfer, optimization, and numerical methods. Professional experience with CAD or BIM Modeling products desired. Familiar with commercial or industrial building control systems desired. Knowledge of commercial HVAC/Building Automation Systems and/or equipment desired. Ability to program in C, C++, or C# using Visual Studio. Ability to apply analytical methods to realize solutions. Strong communication (verbal and written) skills. Demonstrated ability to stand out, overcome barriers and deliver results.
