To perform activities related to the design and development of hybrid electric vehicle systems for the automotive industry. Train and mentor less experienced Engineers, evaluate team members' performance, and substitute for Manager as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Product development related analysis, studies, and calculations
Applicable APQP documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R, QFD, Other as appropriate)
Drawing / Design package preparation / release
Product Review / Evaluation (New / Existing product)
Customer contact / customer presentations
Provide guidance/assistance to less experienced team members within the HEV Engineering Department
Lead a product development team based on specific project deliverables.
Create project development plans including resources, material, and equipment as appropriate
Engage in Engineering-related negotiations (testing issues, quality related tasks / corrective actions, discussions with similar level customer engineers)
Perform production line reviews and propose potential improvement ideas
Create and revise work instructions, processes and procedures
Create, and modify specifications and design guidelines
Generate cost savings ideas and attend VAVE (Value Analysis Value Engineering) workshops
Trace technical issues and problems to root cause
Support customer initiatives such as cost and warranty reduction activities, etc.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
Minimum of (6) years experience with HV power distribution
Knowledge of CAD Modeling (2D, 3D) (SolidWorks capability preferred, CATIA V5)
Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
Ability to create new and interpret existing geometric drawings / models
Working knowledge of linear FEA
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Materials knowledge (plastic, metals, rubber)
Understanding of Injection Molding / Stamping / Basic Die Design
5+ years relevant Hybrid Electric Vehicle component design experience desired
Domestic / International travel may be required
On Call Requirements:
Reasonable availability required
Office position - Primarily
Ability to troubleshoot and rework wire harnesses, in warehouses or assembled on vehicles, during wire harness or vehicle builds.
Ability to lift wire harness assemblies up to 40 pounds.
Ability to climb inside of vehicles to troubleshoot and rework.
