POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION

Administers selected exercise activities in community settings. Determines content and implements fitness programs.

May serve as an in-house expert for other Aging staff who are implementing exercise programs for specific target populations. Works collaboratively with organizations providing data about health conditions for planning and evaluation purposes. Duties include the training and orientation of contractual fitness instructors as well as overall program coordination and development.

STARTING SALARY HIRING RANGE:

$22.58 - $24.73

$46,970 - $51,428

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Performs professional level human services work, which may include supervisory responsibility, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work includes human service, administrative, and counseling work; providing counseling and programmatic services to the special populations; and providing assistance in identifying the population at risk, its needs and how to meet those needs.

Organizes and publicizes large events for citizens or special groups. Work also includes providing services needed to carry out human service programs or the operation of a medium sized center with extensive regional responsibility and concurrent programming.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Responsible for coordination and implementation and conducting of in-person and virtual exercise programs, which may include persons with chronic conditions or functional limitations.

Provides instruction on the proper use of fitness equipment, which may include persons with chronic conditions or functional limitations.

Provides exercise counseling on an individual basis.

Provides instruction on proper usage of exercise equipment.

Performs outreach in the community to promote exercise and health promotion.

Ensures accurate data collection of exercise activities for management reports and analysis.

Documents in appropriate web-based registration and database systems.

Provides public presentations about exercise, organizes and distributes materials, and writes for print and web media about exercise activities.

Represents Division to health-related agencies at local, state, and national levels.

Serves as liaison to contractual instructors for scheduling and other issues.

Conducts fitness instructor training.

May serve as an expert to other staff that are identifying and/or implementing exercise activities.

Serves as a team member in agency or community activities designed to evaluate activities and improve client outcomes.

Evening and weekend coverage is required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May supervise contractual fitness instructors.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Bachelor's Degree in exercise science or related field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS, MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journal articles and documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Must possess fitness and/or exercise certification.
