Arlington County Department of Human Services (DHS) Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is hiring a Human Services Clinician II to serve in one of the Division's primary client services' entry points. This position will be part of the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) which links older adults and individuals with disabilities to services and resources with the goal of enhancing their quality of life, independence, and well-being.

The ADRC is part of the Agency on Aging in the Community Supports and Coordination Bureau (CSCB), a dynamic and innovative team of professionals. CSCB provides comprehensive wrap around supportive services helping older and vulnerable adults and their caregivers to maintain the highest level of independence and quality of life in their community of choice. CSCB also oversees multiple contracted services and monitors trends, legislation and policy impacting older adults.

ADSD is part of an integrated model, connecting clients to human services programs including: adult protective services, adult social services, home-based nursing case management, in-home services support vendors, home care agencies, senior adult mental health, and volunteer guardianship programs. The population served is culturally and ethnically diverse.

Specific duties include:

  • Conducting intake interviews to determine potential need for resources and services;
  • Performing comprehensive assessments using a strengths framework in an integrated context that promotes safety, independence, dignity and wellbeing of customers seeking services;
  • Partnering with customers and families to provide short term case management, develop service plans and ensure follow-up to reduce risks and enhance ability to live independently;
  • Securing appropriate funding and payment authorizations for services and assists in completing financial eligibility paperwork for DHS and related programs, including applications for benefits and emergency financial requests;
  • Maintaining electronic case records in compliance with applicable clinical and regulatory requirements;
  • Providing outreach, support and consultation to team, internal DHS and external community partners; and
  • Advocating on behalf of customers through emergency services/crisis intervention as needed.

Minimum:

  • Master's Degree in Human Services, Counseling, Psychology, or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a practicum prior to graduation involving diagnostic, treatment, and case management services; plus
  • Two (2) years of post-Master's degree experience providing professional clinical human services, which included the application of diagnostic, treatment, and case management services.

Substitution: A directly related higher level clinical degree may substitute for the Master's degree education requirement and one year of professional clinical social work experience gained after the Master's degree was awarded.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following experiences and or licensure:

  • Virginia licensed or license-eligible in a clinical discipline such as social work, professional counselor or other;
  • Assessing clients' eligibility for public benefit programs;
  • Providing services to older adults, persons with disabilities, and their families;
  • Working with individuals from diverse cultural/ethnic backgrounds; and/or
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, or Vietnamese.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A background check may be conducted on all candidates who are finalists for the position. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit check and may require signing a release authorizing the County to obtain this information.

The position will require travel around Arlington County. Applicant must possess or obtain by the time the appointment a valid Driver's license from the applicant's place of resident or be willing to use alternative modes of transportation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Some telework may be available contingent upon workload and supervisor approval.
