Virginia offers various incentive programs to attract primary healthcare professionals to the commonwealth's underserved areas. These programs help pay off outstanding medical education debts in exchange for recipients' commitment to provide medical care where provider shortages exist, thus helping to advance Virginia's goal of becoming the healthiest state in the nation. The Office of Health Equity at the Virginia Department of Health houses coordinators who play a crucial role in fulfilling the mission of these programs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position entails serving as a coordinator for the workforce incentive program, with the primary responsibility of reviewing program applications for completeness and securing additional information as necessary. Additionally, the coordinator supports the Behavioral Health Loan Repayment, Nursing Preceptorship, and Dental Loan Repayment programs.

The coordinator is expected to submit application packets for final administrative approval while also conducting extensive communication with external parties, including workforce recipients, attorneys, employers, practice sites, and other stakeholders, via phone, email, and mail, as required. The coordinator is also expected to research files and service obligations for workforce incentive program recipients and work closely with their supervisor to implement, troubleshoot, and provide technical assistance for the database system.

In addition to notifying recipients of their award status, updates, approvals, and relevant information, the coordinator is expected to maintain accurate records and data entry for applicants and recipients in the workforce database and files, including advanced database management. Information management, such as archiving records, auditing records, coordinating responses to variances, exemptions, defaults, and contested cases with Office of Financial Management and Office of Health Equity staff, and generating reports for workforce programs, grants, constituents, and management, also falls under the purview of the coordinator.

This role requires the coordinator to review employment verification for all workforce incentive program recipients. The coordinator is also expected to generate letters and memos to participants and the Virginia Department of Health administration, as well as coordinate internal and external correspondence or documents. Possible travel may be required as well.
