Believer Meats is an innovative start-up revolutionizing the food industry through the development and commercialization of cultivated meat products. Leveraging cutting-edge biotechnology, we aim to provide sustainable, ethical, and high-quality meat alternatives to consumers worldwide. As we near completion of a new plant and prepare for commercialization, we are seeking an experienced Human Resources and Talent Manager to join our team.

The Human Resources and Talent Manager will play a crucial role in shaping and managing HR operations, supporting recruiting, onboarding and professional development for exempt and non-exempt workforce, and implementing processes that will fuel our growth. You will work closely with leadership to build scalable HR processes and initiatives that foster employee engagement and organizational growth. This is a unique opportunity to have impact on day one in a mission-driven start-up with a bias for action. You will have a significant role in scaling our new plant in Wilson, NC, so we are looking for someone who can be on site 4+ days a week.

Summary of role and team:

Your day-to-day

HR Operations and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and programs to support company objectives and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Support implementation of HRIS.

  • Stay abreast of changes in employment laws and regulations and advise leadership on compliance matters. Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and standards.

  • Develop and implement safety training programs to promote a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Payroll and Benefits Administration:

  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in collaboration with finance and accounting teams, and external vendors

  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and compensation.

Recruitment and Onboarding:

  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies to attract top talent for both exempt and non-exempt positions.

  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and extending offers.

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and prioritize recruitment efforts accordingly.

  • Lead new employee onboarding processes to ensure a seamless and positive experience for all new hires.

Employee Relations:

  • Serve as a trusted HR partner to employees and managers, providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Address employee concerns and grievances in a timely and empathetic manner, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.

  • Conduct investigations into employee relations issues and recommend appropriate resolutions in line with company values and policies.

Learning and Development:

  • Develop and implement learning and development initiatives to support employee growth and career advancement.

  • Identify training needs and coordinate training programs to enhance employee skills and competencies.

  • Facilitate mentorship and coaching programs to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Culture and Engagement:

  • Champion our company culture and values, driving initiatives to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.

  • Organize employee engagement activities, events, and recognition programs to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie within the team.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to assess and address organizational needs related to employee development and well-being.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment

  • 2+ years of experience with non-exempt employee management and recruitment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

  • Demonstrated success in sourcing and hiring diverse talent across various levels and functions.

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations, particularly as they pertain to non-exempt employees.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • Resourceful problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
