Are you starting your senior year in the fall?

Jubitz Corporation in North Portland is seeking an enthusiastic & highly motivated Human Resources Intern for the Summer Term. This position will be full-time for 12 weeks beginning in May or June 2019.


The Human Resources Intern will participate, and gain real-world experience, in the following areas:

  • Employment Law and Company Policies: Assist with review and revision of key company policies including employee handbook polices, business ethics policies, safety policies, etc.

  • HR and Regulatory Compliance: Participate in audits of company compliance obligations including I-9 forms, personnel files, etc. Evaluate and make recommendations for compliance tracking systems.

  • Talent Sourcing and Talent Selection: Identify and engage with best methods for talent sourcing, review incoming resumes/job applications to help match applicants with employment opportunities, assist with phone screens, interviews, and pre-hire check processes.

  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.


  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Prior job experience in a service or transportation related position is desired.


  • This Internship will involve research and content writing to include policies and job descriptions. Strong writing skills are required.

  • Excellent communication skills including writing, listening, speaking; strong command of the English language is required.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks at one time through excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Computer/software aptitude at an intermediate-to-advanced level in a variety of software programs including Microsoft Office programs, and business-related software applications.

  • Possess strong ethical values and an ability to maintain confidential information.

  • Ability and eagerness to learn and participate in a variety of human resources activities.

  • Friendly, team-oriented work style; able to easily build relationships and collaborate with others.

  • Professional demeanor and approach in handling work tasks and interactions.

Purpose of Position: This Intern will assist a number of organizational units in our Human Resources team, rotating from one organizational unit to another. The intern will directly assist the Human Resources Manager of each organizational unit with a wide range of activities related to HR compliance, recruiting, onboarding/orientation, employee benefits, and organizational effectiveness. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical and will help the intern be better prepared to work in the arena of human resources. Position Essential Functions, under direct guidance and supervision: • Assists with various tasks in support of our HR department's daily operational activities. • Checks in with mentors/mentees of 2019 program to track progress/activities. • Help to coordinate and complete logistics for classes and events. • Assists with Change Management activities for the headquarters relocation. • Assists with steps in the recruiting and hiring process, including: posting job openings, reviewing resumes and applications, scheduling and confirming interviews with candidates, and conducting telephone and in-person interviews. • Supports the updating and removing of job ads from job boards, careers pages and social networks. • Assists with research and benchmarking related to HR's role in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. • Helps with updates to our internal databases with new employee information, including contact details and employment forms. • Identifies performance appraisal documents from employee files and prepares for offsite storage utilizing appropriate record retention schedules. • Helps with uploading documents to our SharePoint sites. • Learns about the interrelationship of HR and Finance in the areas of new employee paperwork, payroll issues related to both onboarding and termination, use of a payroll management database, and report generation. • Assists with employee benefits management issues related to benefits enrollment and termination, troubleshooting employee benefits issues, and the customer service aspect of benefits management. • Learns general Executive Compensation processes at NW Natural. • Researches best practices and assists with process improvements and documentation including scanning and organizing electronic files. Position Qualifications: • Good oral and written communication skills. • Good research skills. • Possess basic familiarity with HR processes. • Ability to work both independently and within a team. • Ability to meet deadlines, including time management and organizational skills. • Experience with software tools, primarily using Word and Excel. • Student Member of SHRM a plus. • Experience as a Staff Assistant or similar junior HR role is a plus. • Familiarity with HRIS, ATS and resume databases is a plus.
