Professional Transportation, Inc. has been providing crew transportation services for railroads since 1980 and has an industry reputation for providing quality, reliable, and safe crew transportation services. Much like a shuttle service, PTI receives around-the-clock requests from our railroad customers to pick up and drop off train crews. PTI dispatchers match up drivers with these trips and the drivers safely transport the crews to their destinations. Taking place thousands of times a day, these trips can range from a few miles to a few hundred miles.

Human Resources Specialist

Provides support and assistance to the Human Resources Managers and Human Resources Director through activities related to Human Resources programs and procedures. This position requires confidentiality, prioritizing and organization.

Job Description:

Recruitment

  • Assist in hiring process by coordinating job postings, reviewing resumes, and performing telephone interviews and reference checks as requested.

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with college and university placement offices and faculty as a source to generate qualified applicants.

  • Coordinate internal and external recruiting efforts as needed. Meet with partners to develop specific recruiting strategies, and maintain records on recruiting activities as required.

  • Attend or host open interview events both locally and nationally.

Training

  • Conduct employee training classes

  • Develop and update new or current courses

  • Attend outside training opportunities and developmental programs to improve skill sets

Unemployment/Wage Audits

  • Respond timely to unemployment claims by using our database management system.

  • Accurately provide documentation to our database management system to fight claims in all states for all business units.

  • Work with Managers to ensure appropriate defense/offense in unemployment hearings.

  • Complete wage audits as requested.

Payroll

  • Act as administrative liaison between HR and Payroll

  • Update time clock punches as needed and send reporting to managers weekly

  • Respond timely to appropriate requests for information related to pay, employment verifications, etc.

Administration

  • Coordinate updates to the company's Policy & Procedures, employee handbook, training, and other employee and recruiting documents.

  • Assist with various research projects and/or special projects.

  • Aid in the implementation and management of the company's HRIS/ATS systems.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Personally commit to quality in all aspects of work.

  • Provide "World Class Customer Service" for internal and external customers.

  • Participate in and promote the established Quality Improvement Process (QIP) for continuous improvement.

  • Participate on teams to research, measure and correct problems and to strive for process improvement.

  • Communicate and exemplify the Company's Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Values, and Philosophy.

  • Attend at least ten (10) hours of training annually to continue development of work-related skills.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Some college coursework.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Human Resources preferred

Experience:

  • 2+ years related experience; human resources experience preferred

We are looking for a Director of Human Resources, to become part of our HR leadership team. This person will be responsible providing guidance and hands-on services to PTI corporate and field operations in such areas as strategic initiatives, legal compliance, employee relations, complaint/charge investigation and resolution, advancement of Company mission and culture, and special projects. Provides support and backup to the Director of Organizational Excellence and will report directly to the Executive Vice President of Human Resources. This position directly supervises ~2 direct reports. The Director of Human Resources will travel as business needs require but typically ~25%. Our successful hire will be responsible for: * Advising, training, and providing legal compliance * Being a business partner and handling employee relations * Labor relations and being an active member with our union representatives * Policy and procedure creating, updates, implementation, and management * Benefits administration and support Our ideal candidate would: * have a minimum of 7 (seven) plus years of progressive, results oriented experience in Human Resources; * have a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or related business field; * have a sound understanding of employment laws, affirmative action, and other government compliance regulations, and their application; * have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills and be comfortable in front of large and small groups of customers and our own company C-suite; * possess working knowledge of contracts and legal documents; * must have a thorough knowledge of customer service excellence and be able to deal effectively with customers in all situations; * have the ability to think logically and quickly, applying both law and common sense and objectively conduct investigations; * have the ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
