The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

Position Summary:NRDC's HR team strives to be valued as experts who develop leading people solutions, foster a values-driven culture, and serve as strategic partners in furtherance of the organization's mission. We are seeking a talented and motivated Human Resources Operations Coordinator to join our team to focus on supporting our systems & data management activities within the HR Operations Team. The position can be based in our New York, or DC office.


  • The position of HR Operations Coordinator will have ownership of regular team responsibilities as it relates to HR systems management and administration, provide back up support on critical processes for teammates and pursue special projects as bandwidth allows

  • Review and Entry of data changes into HRIS

  • Provide administrative support to the HR Operations Team

  • Enact lower-level configuration changes and data entry to the various HR systems platforms

  • Support good electronic record-keeping standards for HR data files

  • Schedule meetings, track important meeting minutes, and ensure streamlined updates are shared and followed-up on in a timely manner

  • The running of reports & data tracking efforts to support regular and ad-hoc auditing activities

  • Perform expanded customer service - calls and personal attention to NRDC employees to enhance our strong customer service reputation; the escalation of issues as needed

  • Support in processing of invoices and other ad hoc administrative duties

  • Support/run payroll processes in partnership with Benefits and Finance teams

  • Maintenance and Management of the HR Library Portal

  • Support NRDC's Onboarding efforts



  • Strong Attention to detail, documentation, and follow-up skills

  • Affinity for/enjoyment for learning new systems & processes

  • Solution-oriented/problem solving orientation

  • Ability to work independently and advance initiatives when required

  • Advanced computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio

  • Experience using an HRIS or other HR system a must; experience working on the admin side of an HR system highly desirable


  • Experience with process mapping & business analysis concepts

  • Experience handling large amounts of data & producing reports

  • Customer service and people-engagement oriented

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary is $63,000 to $70,000. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.

Since March 2020, NRDC's offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be associated with one of our offices, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support NRDCers with remote working arrangements.

The responsibilities of this role are diverse and dynamic, but we’ll do our best to give you a taste.</p><p>Firstly, it imperative to understand that here at OSH HR is a function of sales. Our HR team looks a bit different than normal. You will be integral to the business development process as for us compliance is the backbone of sales. Every day you will oversee the onboarding of all caregiving staff while following our very extensive list of policies and procedures. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, what this really means is you will be involved in:</p><ul><li>Credentialing: We work collaboratively with the entire team to ensure that all caregivers are always up to date on their required credentials. This includes, sending out monthly reports to caregivers, follow up calls, running reports, or even just catching them when they are in the office.</li><li>Training: The HR Dept will ensure that each caregiver is given the proper training in order to provide the highest level of care to our consumers both upon hire and annually.</li><li>Audits: We conduct audits of caregivers personnel files on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. This includes checking all trainings, CDC requirements and OSH forms are correct and up to date.</li><li>Onboarding: compliantly hire all external employees, conducting background checks, screening candidates, and following all internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations.</li></ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>What you should bring with you:</strong></p><p>We always say here at OSH that we hire character and train skill. This role is largely independent. You will need to know how to prioritize your schedule and how to accomplish all your tasks in a timely manner.</li><li>Asks Questions. Change is a constant at OSH.
