Our Human Resources Manager will report to the site operations leader, with a strong dotted line reporting to the VP HR, and act as an advisor and strategic partner on all things HR. You will have responsibility for two facilities, Hagerstown, MD (350 employees) and Terre Haute, IN (50 employees), plus a team of 3-4 HR professionals. These two facilities are recent acquisitions of Lakeside Book Company and play an important role in our manufacturing network and contribute significantly to our business earnings. Continued integration into Lakeside's existing platform structure will be a focus for 2024.

As our Human Resources Manager, you will:

  • Lead and direct plant HR activities to support the achievement of plant performance metrics in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Productivity and People.

  • Serve as a strategic business partner, developing plans in tandem with plant objectives and functional HR processes.

  • Ensure the execution of key plant HR initiatives and processes to drive continuous improvement in all areas of Human Resources, including organization effectiveness, staffing, employee relations, performance management, training and development, benefits, employment practices, and legal compliance.

  • Guide the Employee Relations strategy and manage the overall culture at the plant to maintain a positive employee relations environment.

  • Support organization change and continuous improvement efforts (such as Lean) and collaborate with plant leadership to ensure successful change management approaches through effective planning and analysis, communication of change initiatives, full and active leadership support, and employee involvement.

  • Provide counsel and coaching to all employees on various personnel matters.

  • Lead efforts to support recruitment efforts for plant growth.

  • Track and analyze plant HR metrics to determine root causes and develop and execute action plans to address problem areas.

  • Lead the talent management efforts, including DE&I, succession planning, competency development, process planning, career planning, retention efforts, and development activities across the plant.

  • Support performance management initiatives and integrate balanced assessments, goal setting, and development processes.

  • Provide thorough and engaging orientation, onboarding, and employee communication processes in partnership with other lead team members.

  • Advise and counsel managers and staff on HR/employee issues and activities.

  • Understand and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes governing HR processes.

  • Understand and apply lean manufacturing concepts to HR systems and problem-solving

  • Support community activities and location grants/donations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience in a manufacturing organization

  • Previous experience leading high-level transformation or organizational change initiatives

  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies desired
