Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager acts as a strategic business partner who provides counsel and support to management and employees in all aspects of the human resources discipline. This includes employee relations, legal, staffing, diversity, benefits, compensation, employee coaching and training & development. This role is responsible for bringing new ideas and processes to support the agency's overall vision and partners closely with the Human Resources Director to have a pulse on Account Management.

the position:

Strategic Partner

  • Establishes and sustains fluid partnership with the Account Management department

  • Offers timely and transparent communication allowing visibility into HR initiatives as well as maintaining a knowledge of department initiatives

  • Maintains understanding of Account Management department allocations and financials

  • Stays up-to-date with Account Management recruiting; provides recommendations for internal moves based on agency and specific team needs Employee Relations/Performance Management

  • Proactively addresses employee performance issues and if warranted works with manager on a performance improvement plan

  • Investigates complaints and concerns and recommends course of action based on findings

  • Conducts New Hire follow-ups and exit interviews

  • Owns annual performance management process providing guidance and counsel to managers and employees

  • Partners with senior managers to cultivate a positive, productive work environment; proactively brings ideas and counsel


  • Champions the employee onboarding process including new hire orientation

  • Recognizes opportunities, then develops and implements various human resource initiatives/procedures

  • Addresses benefit inquiries from employees including health insurance, stock purchase, 401(k), life, LTD insurance, FTO, Leave of Absences, etc.

the personality:

  • 5 years of progressive HR experience

  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, oral and written communication skills

  • Interpersonal skills that encourage team cooperation, promote enthusiasm, engagement and motivation

  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant experience required: preferably in HR Management, Organizational Development or Business Management. PHR or SHRM-CP preferred

Responsibilities will include heavy emphasis on associate relations management, records compliance, and performance management. Under the direction of the HR Director, execute and communicate with the organization on HR initiatives (Review process, Merit process, Audits, Development Planning, and Recognition initiatives) Support HR Director and CJ management in areas such as employee relations, retention, and performance management (career development, coaching, and disciplinary actions). Ensures adherence to company policy and procedure and employment law As the central HR Generalist for the CJ team nationwide, work across all 7 locations to ensure that PeopleSoft, digital, and paper records are maintained and associate questions and concerns are addressed. Duties & Responsibilities * 30% HR Coordinator Administrative Duties * Process associate status changes * Respond to routine inquiries on benefits, employment verifications, leave administration, and unemployment claims in line with company policy * Coordinate webinars, training sessions and other HR events for multiple locations, including facility, catering, and Outlook invitation setup * Maintain digital and paper employee personnel files in line with company policies and government regulations * In partnership with Talent Acquisition, coordinate local new employee orientations and exit processing. Assist, as necessary, with locations nationwide * 30% Associate Relations and Performance Management * Counsel and coach managers on employee relations issues (establishing job descriptions, investigations, involuntary terminations, and performance improvement plans) * Lead local onboarding presentations and act as backup for locations nationwide * Present informational webinars and training sessions such as open enrollment, process training, and performance management training * Liaison for benefits issues * 25% Monitor HR Processes for Compliance and Associate Communication * Manage unemployment and workers comp claims * Manage Leave of Absences conversations * Support onsite training initiatives * Support Associate Survey actions * 15% Reporting and analytics * Run weekly, monthly and quarterly reports out of PeopleSoft for a variety of functions (finance, facilities, etc) * Reporting and metrics responsibility (turnover, RFP responses, recognition reports, promo reports, and adhoc reports) Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree Qualifications: 2-3 years of experience in Human Resources Key knowledge, skills, and abilities required: * Unique to CJ: * Requires high level of tactical skills and the ability to work across all levels of the organization in a highly matrixed distributed team environment * Comfort and proficiency to work remotely with team members in various locations across the US, relying on technology to connect with and solve problems with peers * Requires significant comfort with high rate of change, new initiatives, and significant amounts ambiguity during the development, maintenance, and execution of all practices and programs * Standard: * Proficiency with standard computer applications (MS Office) and HRIS databases (PeopleSoft preferred) * Exceptional customer service skills and an ability to address underlying questions and anticipate problems or concerns. * Attention to detail and ability to improve HR processes to improve productivity. * Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with the business and HR colleagues, learning to persuade and influence. * Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and ability to coach and counsel on basic ER/performance management issues, building specialized expertise in an HR function. * Ability to drive short-term HR small scale (may have short turn around, group or location specific) projects * Comfort with creating and sending professional HR communications. * Has a basic understanding of change taking place in groups supporting.
