Our Human Resources Team in our Rolling Meadows Division is currently looking for a bright, ambitious Human Resources Manager who enjoys teamwork and ongoing challenging projects. The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the company's human resources are recruited, developed, utilized and managed in the most effective manner and provide leadership for and carry out implementation of administration and support activities related to Corporate HR procedures, processes and programs.

OBJECTIVE:

Responsible for ensuring that the company's human resources are recruited, developed, utilized and managed in the most effective manner. Provide expert advice and guidance to other members of the organization on human resource matters by managing the human resources department so that it effectively and efficiently provides services. Provide leadership for and carry out implementation of administration and support activities related to Corporate HR procedures, processes and programs. Participate in the execution of the HR strategic plan and undertake focused improvement initiatives at the direction of corporate management. Responsible for promoting and implementing health, safety and environmental programs in compliance with ATS/sortimat corporate policies and in consideration of divisional needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for all HR functions in the division and provides the appropriate support, consultation and direction to all levels of management.

  • Create Human Resources, practices, and procedures; support special projects/initiatives and contribute to the creation of HR communications materials such as newsletters, memos, employee handbook, etc.

  • Provide expert advice and guidance to HR staff and other members of the organization on human resource matters by managing the human resources department so that it effectively and efficiently provides services.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS/sortimat Code of Business Conduct.

Legislative Requirements and Obligations:

  • Make recommendations regarding compliance with legislated areas (e.g. Employment Standards, Human Rights, Employment).

  • Coordinate and assist in return-to-work scenarios.

  • Establish and manage documentation and controls procedures specific to legislative obligations and ATS/sortimat policies.

  • Investigates any employee complaints regarding employment issues; create protocols to facilitate investigations.

  • Keep abreast of all legislative requirements and stay current with HR Management programs.

Management/Employee Relations and Communications:

  • Coach group leaders, supervisors and managers on the resolution of labor relations issues and provide direction on all HR issues.

  • Identify and proactively diffuse risk and potential liability.

  • Manage employee relations including acting as a liaison between employees and management.

  • Evaluate human resources and work-related problems and meet with supervisors and managers to determine effective remediation techniques such as job skill training or personal intervention to resolve human relations issues among personnel.

  • Develop and conduct training to instruct managers, supervisors and workers in human resources skills, such as supervisory skills, conflict resolution skills, interpersonal communication skills and effective group interaction skills.

  • Establish and maintain a positive work environment and effective employee relations.

Organizational/Division Development Strategic Alignment:

  • Provide leadership for and carry out implementation of administration and support activities related to Corporate HR and Corporate Strategic procedures, processes and programs.

  • Participate in the development and execution of the HR strategic plans and undertake focused improvement initiatives at the direction of corporate management.

  • Interpret and administer core business plans and strategies and ensure divisional goals and objectives are 'in-tune' with the company's business goals.

  • Research and analyze competitors to maintain the reputation of 'employer of choice' and use as a resource tool for aiding retention.

Performance Management/Career Development:

  • Assist in identifying, evaluating and resolving human resources and work performance problems within the establishment to facilitate communication and improve employee relations skills and work performance.

  • Manage the company's performance appraisal process as well as deliver training to personnel required to complete appraisals.

  • Define and develop career development maps and strategically align the development and selection of individuals for succession planning.

  • Assume complete responsibility for the effective operation of the progressive discipline system; Advise, support and coordinate all plant employee discipline and behavioral control activities.

  • Conduct all terminations, severance calculations, lay-offs and progressive disciplinary actions.

Recruitment and Retention and Continuous Supply of Technically Sophisticated Labor:

  • Ensure that the Company's human resources are recruited, developed, utilized and managed in the most effective manner.

Compensation and Benefits and Administration:

  • Administer the wage and salary related components.

  • Work with department heads to establish pay scale guidelines and ensure rates are competitive.

  • Coordinate pay scales for specific functions to ensure pay equity.

  • Manage and coordinate apprenticeship increases and divisional annual increase.

  • Develop internal pay equity program to evaluate and measure job worth for the various technical positions.

  • Manage and coordinate the numerous company benefits programs including health benefits, 401k Program, Computer Purchase Program, and Employee Share Purchase Program, etc.

Training:

  • Oversee review all training sign-in sheets for completion.

  • Oversee recordation of all training records.

  • Oversee maintenance of all training records electronically and manually in binders.

Health, Safety, & Environmental:

  • Assist QHSE Manager for driving success in accident prevention through implementation of Company programs to promote and improve Health & Safety.

  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of Company safety programs, training and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and industry leading safety practices.

  • Participate in divisional Health & Safety Committee activities.

  • Review all accident investigation reports to ensure appropriate internal and external reporting is completed and followed-up within timeframes and participate in investigations where required.

  • Responsible for worker's compensation claims management, administration and reporting requirements.

  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.

  • Maintain International Standardization Organization (ISO) standards.

(Health, Safety, & Environmental continued):

  • Work in compliance with divisional Health, Safety, and Environmental Procedures.

  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through Lockout-Tagout methods.

  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.

  • Report any defect in any equipment or protective device.

  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned task.

  • Attend all required Health, Safety, and Environmental training.

  • Report any accidents/incidents, including near misses to your supervisor.

  • Assist in investigating any accidents/incidents or near misses if requested.

  • Refrain from engaging in any unruly conduct.

  • Ensure that equipment, materials and protective devices are functioning in a safe manner

  • Ensure that employees are working in accordance with divisional health and safety procedures

  • Applies progressive discipline as appropriate for health, safety and/or environmental violations

  • Advise employees of the existence of any potential or actual health and safety risks

  • Provide appropriate instruction for safe work

  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees

  • Conduct periodic inspections and audits in accordance with legislative and/or corporate requirements

  • Conduct accident/incident investigations, prepare necessary reports and communicate to line management, health and safety personnel and health and safety committee

  • Ensure that all employees, including temporary workers and contractors, adhere to safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment

  • Support activities and initiatives outlined by the Joint Health and Safety Committee

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • A post-secondary degree, complimented with specialization in human resources, personnel administration or equivalent or completion of an HR professional designation.

Experience:

  • Five or more years of human resources management experience with two years of health and safety experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.

  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office products and Internet research skills are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.

  • Exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

  • Visual Acuity Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens

  • Hearing Ability Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.

  • Working Conditions The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
