Virginia Farm Bureau has an opening for a self-starting Human Resources Generalist with strong emphasis on recruiting. This position will be responsible for the recruitment, development and retention of Virginia Farm Bureau employees, supporting a Regional Sales Group with recruiting, employee relations and one-on-one training efforts in the Richmond and eastern part of the state. Areas of emphasis include Fredericksburg, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach and surrounding areas. This position offers telecommuting options.

  • Internal candidates that match the required skills but do not have direct human resources experience may be considered.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Handle complex employee relation issues including EEOC, discrimination and harassment charges.

  • Work closely with managers on improving work relationships within their unit and the personal development of their employees.

  • Review compensation structure and conduct salary surveys to ensure VAFB positions are in line with the market.

  • Recruit new employees for all levels of positions within the corporate structure through various activities such as job fairs, college recruiting, Internet, newspapers, trade journals, referral programs etc.

  • Coordinate the entire recruitment to hire procedure.

  • Provide guidance to management on employee relations/performance and compensation issues.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of personal development programs for all employees.

  • Conduct personal development training courses for all employees.

  • Monitor company turnover and hiring time and recommend solutions to improve rates.

  • Coordinate the interviewing/employment process of temporary help and consultants.

  • Support in creating an environment of inclusion.

  • Assist SVP of Human Resources with development, revisions and implementation of policies and procedures.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Respond to employee questions and concerns.

  • All other duties as assigned by the SVP Of Human Resources

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree a plus

  • Minimum 3+ years Human Resources experience (or commensurate work experience)

MINIMUM SKILL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge in the areas of employment law, recruitment practices and benefits

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees

  • High level of initiative and self-motivation

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills

  • Day travel throughout the northern and eastern portion of Virginia, as needed (approximately 20%).

  • Highly service oriented

  • Detail driven

  • Must be able to manage a heavy workload

  • Strong multi-tasking abilities

  • Ability to sell ideas to prospective candidates

  • Self-starter

  • Strong Emotional Intelligence (EQ) skills

  • Ability to withstand tight deadlines and high pressure tolerance

  • Proficient in developing positive employee relationship experiences

  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity is a must

  • Outstanding decision making skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous supervisory/management experience

  • Previous recruiting experience
