SUMMARY

The Human Resources Generalist provides strategic and operational leadership and coordination in assigned areas of responsibility to support the vision, mission and goals of the University. The HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level in, but not limited to, the following functional areas: adjunct contract management, temporary agreements, benefit & leave administration and payroll support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Contract Management/Administration

  • Manages all Adjunct Faculty contracts working closely with the Provost's office and Departments to ensure accurate and timely processing.

  • Responsible for all temporary agreement processing.

  • Handles all graduate assistant paperwork.

  • Responsible for the tuition waiver program; processing requests in a timely manner.

Benefit Administration

  • Administer all aspects of the University's employee benefits programs including enrollments, membership changes and terminations in accordance with University, provider and state and federal requirements.

  • Meet with employees to provide information, answer questions and effectively explain benefit policies and procedures; respond to all employee inquiries regarding benefits and assist employees in resolving benefits problems.

  • Develop and maintain procedures to ensure that benefits enrollments, changes, and terminations are processed timely and accurately with carriers, administrators, and the Business Office / Payroll.

  • Enter employee benefits data to appropriate system/database, and maintain data in a current and accurate manner.

  • Manage annual renewal of all employee benefits programs in a manner which ensures quality and cost-effectiveness for both the University and its employees, and coordinate annual Benefits Open Enrollment process.

  • Process invoices for all benefits plans, ensuring accuracy of billing information and timeliness of payments.

  • Maintain all employee benefits records in a complete and accurate manner, in compliance with laws and regulations and confidentiality requirements.

  • Complete required IRS/DOL benefit filings including Form 5500.

  • Perform appropriate retirement plan testing including non-discrimination testing and tracking of maximum annual contributions.

  • Manage medical and non-medical leaves of absence, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws/statutes and University policies.

  • Monitors other employee benefit deductions.

Payroll Support

  • Support payroll processes with timely processing of adjunct faculty contracts, temporary agreements, and graduate assistant paperwork

  • Works collaboratively with Payroll to update employee payroll information including new Adjunct Faculty, change of status, and employee terminations

New Hire Orientation

  • Manage the pre-employment process for Adjuncts and Temporary employees, ensure that offered/accepted candidates receive appropriate new hire materials.

  • Conduct new hire orientation bi-weekly

  • Support HR team with logistics of new employee on-boarding and orientation and with employee training programs (online and in-person)

  • Assist with updating and maintaining forms, policies and procedures; creates process guides and other reference materials.

  • Perform regular audits of employee data; communicate with supervisors and employees to gather missing information.

  • Develop expertise regarding employment laws and University employment policies and classifications (e.g., exempt/non-exempt, salary ranges, etc.); provide consultation to supervisors to ensure understanding of and compliance with laws and policies.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Human Resources team to ensure University objectives and strategic plans are met.

  • Identify and propose process improvements to increase timeliness and effectiveness of Human Resource functions.

  • Provide back-up to other Human Resources functions as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, plus a minimum of two years employee benefits experience required. Equivalent experience may substitute for Bachelor's Degree.

  • Solid working knowledge and practical application of benefit administration and regulatory compliance preferred; experience in higher education a plus.

Other Qualifications

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.

  • Outstanding organizational skills; ability to prioritize and handle several tasks simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in task/project accomplishment.

  • Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment.

  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with candidates, colleagues, external constituents and students.

  • Cultural competency to work with a diverse population.

  • Ability to maintain confidential information with discretion.

  • Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment. Proficiency with MS Office Suite and other programs as needed.

  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.

  • Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public.
