Total Fiber Recovery of Chesapeake (TFRC) is a joint venture between Oregon-based Total Fiber Recovery, a subsidiary of Bulk Handling Systems, and the Swedish company CellMark Inc. This new facility will annually produce over 200,000 tons of recycled pulp from mixed paper (MP) and cardboard (OCC).
TFRC is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join the team in Chesapeake, Virginia.
In this role, you will be responsible for coordination of human resources responsibilities for the TFRC facility. You will work closely with the BHS Human Resources team to ensure local practices align with overall company strategy and initiatives where applicable. You will collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and other office personnel to develop, prepare, and implement policies and procedures. Your role is both employee advocate and support for supervisors and leaders in managing employee issues.

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business management or related field required
At least 5 years of progressive human resources experience in a manufacturing or plant production environment
Comprehensive understanding of HR best practices, employee benefits, and state and federal employment laws
Proficient experience with HR systems required, ADP highly desirable
Advanced skills with MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
Ability to analyze, define, and diagnose risk management issues based on sound logic and rationale
Knowledgeable about OSHA standards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically
Desire and ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Strong organizational, leadership, and motivation skills
Ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Capable of maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism

Interfacing with the BHS Human Resource team on payroll, benefits, workers compensation, talent acquisition and related corporate cascaded items and projects
Assisting with hiring, firing, training and related talent management tasks
Assisting with onboarding and offboarding paperwork and processes
Overseeing hourly timekeeping processes including assisting employees with timekeeping concerns and corrections
Tracking and reporting on attendance metrics for the facility
Providing day-to-day support on employee relations issues, performance behavior, policies and procedures and additional related personnel topics
Driving employee engagement by creating and executing meaningful events, creating opportunities for team building and collaboration across the building
Working closely with supervisors to ensure employee engagement and satisfaction to prevent employee turnover
Coaching and advising supervisors on the resolution of employee relations issues
With the General Manager and shift supervisors, supporting the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by eliminating hazards, training employees, and promoting safety awareness
Serving as the local contact for safety incidents, investigations, and coordinate with the corporate HR team on the Workers' Compensation claims process
Ensuring record keeping and review of facility incident investigations on all work-related injuries, near misses and accidents completed by shift supervisors or the General Manager
Proactively identifying opportunities for the continuous improvement and development of employee centric initiatives within the facility
