Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources & Staff Development, the Human Resource Generalist is responsible for managing a range of activities related to employee/labor relations and staffing functions
The ideal candidate will be proactive and have experience in handling a wide range of Human Resources tasks, to include workers compensation and FMLA. This person must be well organized, flexible, must have excellent attention to detail, able to work independently and enjoys the challenges of supporting an agency of diverse people.
WORK PERFORMED
- Administer workers compensation program:
- Submit claim information to insurance company. Communicate with medical centers/doctors regarding claims and act as liaison with insurance company
- Assist employees in claim process including paperwork, medical appointments. Reimbursements and wage reporting
- Investigate job related injuries as necessary
- Coordinate quarterly Safety Committee meetings to review incidents/claims and make recommendations
- Complete annual survey of occupational injuries and Illness as required by OSHA. Maintain records in compliance with agency and OSHA guidelines
- Complete and post annual Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses as required by the Maryland Bureau of Labor Standards
- Attend seminars and workshops regarding workers compensation
- Manage the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) process
- Assist employees in making requests
- Determine designation of leave
- Process documentation in compliance with FMLA required notifications
- Maintain communication with supervisors on active requests and compliance issues
- Maintain reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work, relays communication between employee and supervisors during leave within reason
- Oversee the Return-to-work Process for Employees returning from FMLA, workers compensation, or other leave(s)
- Communicates with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified schedules
- Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify and take leave
- Maintains accurate records of accommodation requests
- Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including FMLA, ADA, and federal, state and local laws
- Stay abreast of current federal, state and local guidance regarding COVID-19
- Advise/respond to employees and supervisors when an employee or person we support tests positive for COVID-19 or exposed to COVID-19 based on The Arc Montgomery County procedures
- Assist with recruitment tasks as needed ( review applications, interviews)
- Perform customer service functions by answering employee questions regarding personnel policy and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Associate Director and/or Director of Human Resources & Staff Development
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in a relevant field plus two years of relevant professional experience or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus four years of relevant professional experience
- Must be proficient in use of computers and in Microsoft Outlook and Word
The role requires onsite presence Monday to Friday (9:00am - 5:00pm)
