Job Purpose

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting designated geographic regions. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The HR Generalist must actively support the departments goals including fostering healthy communication and productive work relationships among employees and upper management.

This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruitment/employment, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll support, training, performance management, employee relations, policy implementation, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Performs benefits administration, including claims resolution, change reporting and communicating benefits information to employees.

Monitors employee eligibility for benefits plans. Reviews benefits with employees and processes enrollment, cancellation or changes. Collaborates with CFO and HR Manager to organize and execute annual open enrollment communications and election process.

Assists with administration of COBRA for group health plans.

Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students and temporary employees; conducts reference checking; extends job offers, conducts new-employee orientations; monitors career-pathing program; and assists with writing and placing advertisements.

Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

Ensures compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; works with HR Manager to periodically audit Form I-9.

Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.

Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.

Works with HR Manager to maintain EEO records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.

Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.

Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.

Provides current information for company organization charts and the employee directory.

Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.

Provides back-up support for reporting and monitoring of workers' compensation case files; may follow-up on open cases.

Coordinates employee recognition program in collaboration with Partners, Principals and Marketing.

Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws.

Maintains and processes Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely, efficient manner. Attends unemployment hearings when necessary.

Acts as back-up to Payroll Administrator.

Assists with Company Wellness Program, helping to advance wellness campaign, suggest content and activities and work with HR Manager

Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs.

  • The position includes all other responsibilities that may be necessary to fulfill the duties associated with the Human Resources Generalist or as may be assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position may occasionally require longer hours when workload or project deadlines require it.

Travel

Local travel to other office locations during the business day may be required based on employee or management requests/needs. Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

Education and Experience

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field

3 to 5 years previous experience working as an HR Generalist

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)

Preferred

At least 2 to 3 years of experience with benefit administration; demonstrated knowledge of insurance plan design, claim management and explaining/teaching employees about insurance benefits.

Membership in at least one nationally recognized professional human resource organization

Demonstrate success working independently as well as working with a team

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS; basic ability to navigate social media platforms and/or interactive sites as needed.
