The Role

The Benefits Analyst is a full-time position responsible for the administration, communication, and analysis of benefit programs, performing day to day administration to support employees, analyzing employee benefit data, and supporting the implementation of solutions in our corporate benefit programs. The business analyst supports our colleagues, HR Business Partners, and Benefits team.

This role is both operational and hands on with the ability to deliver exceptional employee support, communicate clearly, analyze data, develop project plans and work independently.

Responsibilities

Benefit Plan Administration and Analysis:

  • Administers employee benefit programs, such as medical, dental, vision, life, STD/LD, 401(k), flexible spending accounts, and supplemental group insurances

  • Support Benefits leadership by assembling information related to complex claims and second level appeals.

  • Maintains and periodically audits benefit enrollment records to ensure accuracy of premium deductions and expense calculation

  • Regularly audits invoices for accuracy

  • Assists in developing and revising documentation such as the Summary Plan Description

  • Supports enrollment and other changes to health, life, disability, worker's compensation and retirement vendors via a variety of reporting mechanisms including provider interfaces and reports in the Workday system.

  • Actively remains current on industry and regulatory issues and changes through training and available literature.

  • Prepares benefits information and statistical/census data and reports, using standard and/or ad hoc HRIS reporting to provide information for decision making to actuaries, auditors, insurance carriers, and management.

  • Reviews statistical and technical data for cost analysis of additional benefits.

  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, practices, procedures and policies pertaining to employee benefits and services.

  • Knowledge of group insurance plan processing and administration.

  • Knowledge and understanding of insurance contracts, plan design, policies, certificates, plan documents and summary plan descriptions.

  • Knowledge of self-funded benefit plans

  • Skill handling sensitive employee information relevant to health care and other confidential issues.

  • Skill understanding and applying complex rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines.

  • Skill developing detailed data and maintaining accurate records.

  • Skill providing customer service with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to interpret employee benefits information and respond accurately to employee inquiries.

Leave of Absence Administration:

  • Must be familiar with leave of absence, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, PDL, parental leave ADA, OSHA, etc. CDC and wellness regulations, documentation, administration, state disability programs

  • Support Benefits Director, third party leave administrator and Payroll to ensure leaves are tracked and paid correctly

  • Ensure that forms are collected, recorded, and filed on time

  • Operate in a way to ensure plans are administered consistent with company policies and are in compliance with federal and state regulations, including but not limited to COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, CFRA and PDL

  • Work with Benefits Director and vendors to ensure compliance with company policies, legal and regulatory requirements, and applicable leave laws

  • Assist with the development of communications and trainings to facilitate process improvement with the HRBP's through a better understanding of the regulations and each other's role in the LOA process

  • Heavy report generation and auditing

  • Perform review of status updates in Workday.

  • Support Benefits Director in responding to leave questions from employees and managers submitted in writing or verbally. Coordinate with additional resources and bring to closure. In the Benefit Director's absence, respond to employee inquiries.

  • Assist Benefits Director with researching leave cases

  • Conduct audits for accurate case management

Wellbeing Programs:

  • Review health, disability, and retirement data to identify emerging trends and benefit needs

  • Evaluate market solutions and present recommendations to benefits leadership on emerging trends

  • Create business case for change

  • Partner with employee benefit vendors to execute on wellbeing programs and education

  • Assist and help coordinate wellness activities at various sites/work locations - health fairs, flu shots, wellness communications, etc.

  • Work with communication team to develop communication materials

Defined Contribution Plan Administration:

  • 5+ years of experience with a defined contribution plans including vast knowledge of plan compliance, administration, and benefit administration rules for pretax, after tax and Roth IRA plans

  • Experience working closely with outside recordkeepers and auditors

  • Respond to plan administration, eligibility, enrollment and transaction questions from employees and managers submitted in writing or verbally. Coordinate with additional resources and bring to closure

  • Perform periodic reconciliations

  • Analyze and synthesize data for use in program review and strategic planning

  • Conduct audits for accurate case management

  • Monitor performance metrics

  • Support preparation of quarterly Benefits Committee meeting materials

  • Assist in the periodic review of vendor performance and when needed vendor selection and implementation

Qualifications

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration, finance, or a related field

  • Master's degree preferred

  • Professional Certification (CEBS, CBPS) preferred

  • A clear understanding of the industry

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Adaptability, accountability, and confidentiality

  • Highly organized

  • Ability to multitask

  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite

Location

This is a hybrid role, based in our Los Angeles office, with office hours from 9:00 - 6:00pm.

Compensation: The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $85,000 - $110,000. This position also is eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
