The temporary Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will focus on developing strong relationships with managers and employees to maximize the level and effectiveness of our organization's talent. Working with the rest of the on-site HR team and the corporate HR organization, the HRBP will play a key role in delivering measurable and sustained value-added solutions that will continue to position the company as the Employer of Choice.

Business Partnership: Be the face of HR to your client teams' employees by providing support for questions they have that relate to their employment at Cengage.

Understand supported businesses/departments/functions to be able to translate the strategic and tactical business plans into HR/people-oriented operational plans. Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the people resources of the corporation. Be a catalyst for organizational change; assist with organizational design and job evaluation efforts as needed.Talent Management:

Assist in the performance management process for your client teams to ensure employees and managers are trained on the performance management processes and work with management and staff to facilitate goal setting and development plans. Partner with managers to ensure appropriate development plans are in place to support employee growth. Training & Development:

Partner with your client team to identify common development needs and work with our Learning & Development team to create training programs and strategies that support the company's strategic plans and culture. Facilitate in-house development initiatives to improve competencies and drive promotional readiness. Organizational Planning & Development:

Function as an objective consultant to management with regard to organizational issues which impact people including organizational structure, managing change, promotions, job titles, career and succession planning. Develop and implement effective communication plans to ensure optimal organizational impact.Compensation, Rewards & Recognition: Collaborate with HR centers of excellence and business unit management on annual merit review process and implementation of compensation processes and tools.

Talent Acquisitions: Partner with managers and recruiting staff to define job profiles and ensure equal opportunity for all employees and support of business objectives, sourcing and interviewing candidates, and providing recommendations on the selection of candidates.

Employee Relations: Work in conjunction with management teams and employees to coach and facilitate problem solving and develop, implement, and administer employee relations programs that will contribute to a positive and progressive work environment. Provide counsel and ensure prompt investigation for all legal-related matters; ensure that appropriate legal counsel is brought into these matters.Outreach and AAP Administration:

Coordinate outreach activities and serve as point person for local AAP. Communicate and educate the local leadership regarding the annual Affirmative Action goals & planning. Monitor employment process/hiring to ensure that Cengage/Gale is building a diverse and effective workforce.

Skills You Will Need Here:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field At least three years of experience in an HR Business Partner role

  • Experience working with employee relations and talent management Project management expertise Collaborative, innovative and customer-focused Must possess the ability to thrive in a team based environment and work effectively with employees of all levels. Ability to travel as needed; a few times each year on average.Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

    Masters degree in Business or Human Resources Experience developing Talent Management / L&D programs. PHR or SPHR designation

Portions of the affirmative action program are available for review by applicants and employees by contacting Human Resources.Requirements Purpose of the Role: The HR Business Partner (HRBP) covers a wide range of HR responsibilities, outside of benefits, for the Macmillan Learning division, including ensuring legal compliance and assisting with employee relations and performance management. The HRBP will serve as a liaison for managers and department heads in the business units s/he supports, offering HR process guidance and assistance. Responsibilities: * Manage the performance improvement process for Macmillan Learning, assisting managers in providing staff feedback and following up on performance improvement metrics, consulting with legal when necessary. * Communicate, implement and monitor performance review process for assigned functions, supporting employees and managers with the steps, expectations, and general questions surrounding both the process and platform used. * Work with senior HR management, legal and benefits staff on ER issues in assigned groups, serving as point person for managers, providing advice on performance counselling and addressing employee complaints. * Manage the off boarding process for voluntary departures including conducting exit interviews and completing necessary paperwork to process final pays. * Handle off boarding for involuntary departures, including ensuring PIP process has been followed (if necessary), manager rationale is provided to Legal, manager compliance with termination scripts, providing termination documents to exiting employees and shared service teams, and following up on off staff procedures on last day. * Collect and assess ML salary data to make recommendations to senior HR management and managers about internal compensation trends, parity of salary within similar roles across the organization, bonus plan structure, promotions, raises, transfers and salary adjustments for mid to entry-level staff. * Develops and conducts training sessions and tips and tricks for HR Assistants in areas of employee onboarding, change processing, and general administration. * Assists in the development of manager and employee training modules by offering feedback and edits for presentations, supplemental materials and resources, roll out plan, etc. * Work with managers and the legal department to draft accurate job descriptions, approve FLSA exemption status, create new job codes, ensure that any workplace investigations follow company and legal standards, and mitigate company exposure and risk.
