Position Title: Human Resources Business Partner
Department: Human Resources
Reports to: Vice President of Human Resources

Position Summary
The Human Resources Team provides strategic human-centered support that aligns with the mission and guiding principles of Pacific Science Center. The Human Resources Business Partner consults with leadership, managers, employees, and cross-functional groups to provide tactical solutions and solve complex organizational challenges. This position provides services and support the following functional areas: workforce planning, recruitment, benefit administration, leave administration, employee and labor relations, learning & professional development, employee communications and engagement, performance management and employment law compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic HR Initiatives & Projects
Develop and implement project plans, including defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables across multiple teams both in and outside of HR. Create timelines, allocate resources, manage budgeting, monitor measures of success, and set milestones
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies
Track project performance to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term objectives
Deliver project updates to stakeholders.
Engagement & Internal Communication
Develop and implements process for analyzing employee feedback
Design and manage employee surveys, focus groups, and other feedback mechanisms
Leverage data to identify, forecast, and analyze risks and opportunities to improve the employee experience
Help lead org-wide internal communications that drive strategic alignment and engagement
Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals
Consults on recruiting and hiring strategies to attract and retain employees from diverse backgrounds, including building authentic community partnerships
Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices
Create and implement strategic action plans to improve team effectiveness, build leader capabilities, and improve the employee experience.
Employee Relations
Provide counsel and guidance on complex employee relations issues and ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws
Conduct investigations by collecting, analyzing and documenting quantitative and qualitative data, researching key business issues, identifying action plans, fully documenting investigative findings, and providing updates and recommendations to HR and business leadership
Coach business leaders on leadership behaviors and practices, employee communication, development and performance management strategies and tactics to promote a culture of continuous growth and development
Conduct exit interviews with departing employees, analyzing opportunities for feedback or improvement particularly in areas related to employee engagement
Facilitate the ADA Interactive Accommodation process from start to implementation of accommodation, and maintenance of said accommodation documentation for employees and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Communicate regularly regarding pending investigations and provide timely investigation reports with supporting documentation for all completed investigations.
Benefit & Leave Administration
Administer company benefit programs, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, LOA, STD, LTD, Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and 403(b) retirement plans
Ensure compliance with Leave of Absence programs including FMLA, ADA, STD, and state leave programs
Maintain records for employees enrolled in the company's benefit plans
Collaborate with payroll to ensure that employer contributions and payroll deductions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
Serve as an internal contact for managers and employees regarding benefits and leaves of absence.
Learning & Development
Collaborate cross-functionally to design, build and oversee internal learning and development programs including identifying performance, skills, and/or behavior gaps, making recommendations, and providing targeted solutions
Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) and infrastructure for all learning & development programs by establishing methods and procedures for delivery, evaluation, measurement, and reporting
Develop and deliver both in-person and virtual training
Continually evaluate and gain feedback on learning & development programs & content to ensure focus on improvement, results, and business impact
Build and refine performance management systems, tools and processes. Including goal setting, coaching conversations, 180/360 feedback, mid-year check-ins, annual ratings, calibration, talent reviews, succession planning, and performance improvement plans
Collaborate with leadership and the HR team to create customized development plans for colleagues and leaders.
General HR
Bring an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) focus to every aspect of our work
Accountable for employment practice discipline including employee relations, risk mitigation, internal policy development, and external employment practice compliance
Partner with HR colleagues to manage and maintain the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
Oversee management, maintenance and security of employee records and files, ensuring timely completion of all necessary documentation
Responds to inquiries and questions regarding employment issues and the application of organizational policies
Serves as a senior member of the Human Resources team; provides support, training, informal coaching and guidance to colleagues on HR Team
Ensures that vendor invoices are processed and submitted to the finance & accounting team in an accurate and timely manner.

Position Requirements
Comprehensive knowledge of workforce planning, full cycle recruitment, benefit administration, leave administration, employee and labor relations, training & development, employee recognition, and performance management
Knowledgeable and proficient in local, state, and federal employment law and human resources compliance and best practices.
Ability to create psychological safety: help others feel comfortable asking for help, sharing suggestions, and challenging the status quo
In-depth knowledge of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) principles, best practices, and emerging trends
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Exemplary tact, discretion and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive issues and individuals at all levels
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that are effective and clear with all audiences

Intermediate skill using Office 365; advanced skills preferred
Perform work with minimal supervision or collaboratively as needed
Ability to build strong relationships, coach and influence others, and facilitate groups
Manages ambiguity and multiple priorities and/or responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Works in a hybrid environment, including conducting regular weekly office hours onsite at Pacific Science Center
Knowledge of best practice in conducting investigations, and skilled at creating related documentation
Knowledge of local, state and federal employment laws and regulations
Qualifications
Required
Preferred
SPHR, SHRM- SCP or similar certification
Multi-state employment law experience (WA, CA, CO)
Direct Employee Relations and/or Compensation experience.
Experience designing or implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives
Experience working with Ceridian Dayforce, or similar HRIS
Experience working with Dayforce Learning or similar LMS
Previous experience working with non-profits or in a museum setting

Compensation
Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.
Starting Base Salary Range: $74,855 - $88,400 per year
In addition to base salary, regular employees working 40 hrs/week can expect the following benefits:
