DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK

This position is responsible for providing a full range of professional human resource services to assigned departments. Responsibilities may include managing recruitment; and providing guidance to management staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Manages recruitment processes, including: creating interview questions; and conducting interviews; complies with all Civil Service Rules.

  • Supports and coordinates City training initiatives.

  • Supports classification and salary programs; and participates in investigations regarding harassment, discrimination, unsafe working conditions, and related complaints to maintain employee health and safety.

  • Performs a variety of other tasks to assist in administering union contracts.

  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance including attendance at required meetings; participates on committees as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Human resources principles and practices;

  • Customer service principles;

  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations;

  • Training program coordination

SKILLS:

  • Coordinating programs;

  • Developing programs and processes;

  • Conducting interviews;

  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, the general public, and others to exchange or convey information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field and 3 years of related experience; or, Associate's degree and 5 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
