Job Description:
Are you passionate about human resources and ready to make an impact? Look no further! The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission is seeking an enthusiastic HR Assistant to join our ranks. As an integral part of our team, you'll play a vital role in payroll processing, recruitment coordination, employee support, and more. Hiring rate will increase to $16.842 on July 1, 2024. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.
This position is permanent part-time (15 hours per week). Ideal schedule will be three 5-hour shifts each week during core business hours.
Examples of Work
Processes biweekly and monthly payroll for the commission.
Assists with recruitment efforts, including communicating with candidates; scheduling interviews, and preparing interview packets.
Answers employee questions and provides general support when HR Manager is out of office.
Runs HR-related reports and maintains HR files for the agency, following records retention schedules set forth by the State.
Administers employee engagement and recognition programs, including selecting and procuring awards, planning recognition activities, and launching employee surveys.
Other duties may be assigned within the job classification scope.
Requirements/ Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of coursework or training in personnel management, business administration, public administration or office/administrative or two years of related experience.
Other: This job requires regular, reliable onsite attendance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of HR processes, especially those related to the position (payroll, recruitment, recognition).
Familiarity with labor and employment laws related to this position (e.g., Fair Labor Standards Act).
Customer-focused on all facets of the position.
Strong interpersonal skills, and written or verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to established deadlines.
Detail-oriented and desire to maintain high quality standards in work product.
Comfortable with common office technology, such e-mail, Microsoft Office products, and copiers.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule on occasion, to provide adequate department coverage.
