The Department of Corrections, Human Resource Office, is recruiting for a Human Resource Technician I position located at the Douglas Island Building (DIB).
The Human Resource Office's recruitment and background staff serve the Department by assisting with development of strategic recruitment practices and conducting background investigations on criminal justice agency applicants.

This position is a range 12 in the Confidential Bargaining Unit.

The primary focus of this position is to conduct background investigations on correctional/probation officer candidates, ensure probationary officers meet their requirements for certification, and assist candidates throughout the pre-employment testing process. The incumbent will spend much of their time on the phone gathering information from individuals, employers, law enforcement agencies, and other criminal justice agencies.

Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Providing clear and thorough guidance to candidates, departmental hiring managers, officers and the general public;
Reviewing criminal history information obtained from law enforcement databases;
Reviewing police and court records;
Learning the requirements for Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) certification for correctional/probation officers;
Tracking the probationary requirements of new officers throughout the process of obtaining their certification;
Reviewing and processing APSC required certification documents to the regulatory agency within statutory time limits;
Assisting with work on special projects; and
Providing backup support to other recruitment staff.
