Location: San Diego, CA
Reporting to the Global Head of HR (with a dotted-line reporting to the Site Operations Manager), the HR Manager will be responsible for providing HR services across a range of areas (e.g. workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, talent management) for the San Diego, CA site in support of the Medical Devices business.
The HR Manager will work as part of the site leadership team, using knowledge of the business, its processes, and the external market, to be accountable for organizational and people capacity planning, talent management and succession planning, employee engagement, and employee relations. This position collaborates across all levels of the business and will have presence in the business by building strategic working relationships to gain an understanding of our key business drivers.
Provides site HR leadership in coordination with wider US, Sector and Group HR teams.
Supports the development and implementation of HR policies, guidelines and procedures.
Supports in delivering the annual HR plan, including project management of key annual HR process cycles (engagement, talent, performance and reward).
Manages the HR budget.
Responsible for all HR reports and KPI's.
Contributes to ensure compliance with legislation and JM policies and procedures.
Acts as the lead in talent management and succession planning; understand the talent agenda for the business, identify key gaps, potential talent and anticipate/plan development needs.
Understand the strategic direction of the business and provide guidance and insight to senior management in support of delivery against relevant business goals and objectives.
Lead organization design and effectiveness activities.
Support Managers with organisational design and change within their areas
Contribute to how HR processes could be managed in a more efficient and effective way.
Coaching our line managers to be effective managers of people will be a core part of the role.
Manage the site headcount plan, including supporting managers to recruit high performing teams in conjunction with the US Talent Acquisition team.
Conducts proper induction and on-boarding of new employees
Builds the capability of line managers to embed a culture where all staff are developed to their full potential through robust development planning
Maintains regular contact with managers across the business area in order to help identify and solve potential problems before they grow
Advises & supports managers with employment relations issues
Ensure HR initiatives are rolled out and embedded in the organisation
Work collaboratively with Sector, Regional and Group HR to implement the Johnson Matthey people strategy, including ensuring compliance with Group policies and procedures
Manager a small site-based HR team (2 people)
Ensure the HR life-cycle of employees (e.g. payroll, salary changes, leavers) is managed on site in collaboration with Group HR
Are you the ideal candidate?
Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or equivalent with growing experience as a Human Resource professional.
PHR or SPHR desired
Proven ability to collaborate, persuade and influence change at different levels within an organisation
Knowledge of US employment law and experience with complex employment relations issues
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Experience working within a matrix environment is desirable but not essential.
Strong track record of delivering HR projects and initiatives
