Job Description Summary

The Division of Continuing Education is seeking a part-time Human Resource Development instructor to provide instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 4:30 pm at Lifequest's facility on 230 East 8th Street in Washington, NC. Instruction will focus on a Pathway to Employment Readiness and Well-being. This course offers students an opportunity to gain essential skills for self-sufficiency and enhance their employability while prioritizing health and fitness. It is tailored for unemployed, underemployed, and dislocated workers, providing a supportive space to acquire practical life skills and maintain overall well-being. The students will learn to engage meaningfully with their community as they develop crucial competencies for independence and fulfillment.

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field.

Prior teaching experience.

Essential Duties

Under direction of the Director of College & Career Readiness, the Continuing Education Instructor works cooperatively with BCCC staff to perform the following:

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.

  • Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.

  • Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.

  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.

  • Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.

  • Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.

  • Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.

  • Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.

  • Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.

  • Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

  • Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.

  • Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.

  • Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.

  • Comply with the College's policies and procedures.

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

FLSA Exempt Estimated Hours per Week Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 - 4:30 pm Range Based on the College's salary plan and is commensurate with education and relevant work experience.
