GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position provides Occupational Therapy services to residents of the Wyoming Life Resource Center in Lander. We have had exciting changes happen at our new facility! WLRC currently serves Wyoming residents in an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) and a newly constructed Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). We have also adopted the Green House model of care.

Located in the foothills of the Wind River mountains, Lander is an outdoor lovers' paradise! Various outdoor activities can be enjoyed, such as fishing, hunting, camping, ATVing, rock climbing, hiking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Provide Occupational Therapy evaluations, service objectives, progress notes, and program development.

  • Serve as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team for a caseload of residents. Attend ISPs, team meetings, and care conferences.

  • Develop treatment plans, and provide interventions and recommendations for functional performance in daily living skills, work, leisure, social participation, motor skills, etc.

  • Assist staff as necessary on programs, job aids, and guidelines.

  • Teach Physical Challenges classes to new and current staff.

  • Evaluate the need for specialized or adaptive equipment. Order, maintain, and replace equipment and materials, as needed.

  • Work with the Therapeutic Equipment (TE) Shop to design and develop needed equipment and materials.

  • Evaluate residents for wheelchairs, customized seating systems, and all appropriate support.

  • Monitor systems for fit and function, making adaptations, modifications, and recommendations when needed.

  • Evaluate the need for splinting interventions. Order or fabricate the appropriate intervention. Develop the methodology and Orthotic Wearing Schedule. Monitor for fit, function, and repair.

  • Provide direct treatment as indicated through professional judgment and ongoing assessments and/or referrals by medical providers.

  • Provide consultative services to Interdisciplinary Team members and colleagues as needed to enhance the resident's ability to participate in pre-vocational, vocational, leisure activities, and ADLs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy practice, principles, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and neurology related to neuromuscular and musculoskeletal function, kinesiology, sensory processing, and intellectual disability.

  • Ability to write assessments, job aids, guidelines, and the ability to teach and train others.

  • Knowledge of seating systems, ambulation aides, and a variety of therapeutic equipment.

  • Skills in verbal and written communication and communicating positively and effectively with residents, staff, families, guardians, and the public.

  • Ability to use computer and software applications.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.

  • Ability to conduct work activities in a self-motivated and disciplined manner.

  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Occupational Therapy)

Experience:

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Occupational Therapy)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Licensure or eligible for licensure in the State of Wyoming as an Occupational Therapist.

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to safely move (twisting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.

  • Ability to monitor sounds, noises, location of residents, etc. to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.

  • Ability to work alone and/or with multiple residents.

  • Skills in crisis management and the ability to intervene in a resident behavioral crisis.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Exempt

  • The Wyoming Life Resource Center participates in E-Verify. We will provide the Social Security Administration, and if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security, with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. Please note that we do not use this information to pre-screen job applicants.

  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, Department of Family Services, and the F.B.I. for every successful applicant.

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
