JOB SUMMARY
The HSE Technician works under the direct supervision and guidance of the HSE Director with a dotted line to the Corporate HSE Compliance officer and is responsible for executing health, safety and environmental (HSE) operations and tasks across DUS jobsites. The HSE Technician is a secondary contact for employees and supervisors concerning safety-related matters and is responsible for the execution of existing Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) programs. The HSE Technician provides resources and information to requestors as needed.
This position involves approximately 90% travel to DUS jobsites by vehicle and public airlines - primarily on the North Slope of Alaska. This is a rotational schedule; 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in occupational health, safety or related field
One year of demonstrated HSE field experience
Strong computer and record keeping skills
Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English
Current driver's license

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conduct regular inspections, safety audits and hazard assessments of work locations, work groups, projects and individuals at the assigned jobsites
Identify hazards & potential risks and, recommend mitigation/control efforts to operations staff
Document jobsite compliance with DUS, governmental and client safety regulations
Provide input to DUS operations managers and supervisors on HSE-related matters, and provide resources for DUS HSE-related activities to operations staff as appropriate
Attend safety meetings at the assigned job sites
Participate in daily safety meetings with various work groups
Assist with identifying training needs, developing training resources and facilitating the provision of mandated HSE training for the DUS workforce
Maintain manual and computer-database HSE-related records
Prepare and present HSE reports as appropriate
Communicate incidents, losses, and near-losses within required time frames
Perform incident, loss and near-loss investigations; interview involved parties and witnesses; gather required findings and document them in multiple media; recommend corrective/preventive actions
Communicate investigation findings to the jobsite managers and the DUS HSE Director
Position requires travel to various jobsites by vehicle and public airlines; approximately 90% of the job is travel-related - primarily on the North Slope of Alaska.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The employee will be required to live and work remote for extended periods of time and exposure to work assignments consisting of twelve-hour days. The majority of the work is performed in a remote setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee's work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items. There may be a lack of immediate access to critical medical services as well as urban community services.
