SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Administers and manages Leave of Absence programs such as FMLA, Short/Long Term Disability and qualified medical LOA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
Manage all leave of absence processes and provide support and guidance in the development and effective administration of the programs, policies, and procedures.
Plans, develops, implements and ensures comprehensive compliance with federal and state Leave of Absence programs such as FMLA, Short/Long Term Disability and qualified medical LOA.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for these programs.
Primary contact for Leave of Absence requests and coordinates with vendor to determine eligibility for FMLA leave status.
Follows up with claimant to facilitate the submission of required LOA documentation requirements following predetermined timeframes and procedures.
Reviews applications for LOA and medical certification documentation for completeness and accuracy. Communicates with claimant and/or claimant's health care provider to request clarification or additional information.
Communicates approval status and on-going procedural requirements to LOA claimant and claimant's manager.
Communicates leave approval status to STD carrier and authorizes carrier to evaluate STD claim for payment.
Coordinates the return of STD eligible LOA claims for leaves continuing beyond the maximum STD benefit period.
Communicates information regarding claimant's leave of absence status to payroll and benefits departments to ensure that claimant's pay status and benefit deductions are current.
Follows up on expected return to work status dates and requests medical recertification, as needed.
Proposes solutions and resolves issues in accordance with research findings, company policy, FMLA and other regulations.
Reviews return to work status documents from health care provider and communicates the status to claimant's manager.
Discusses with manager when a return to work requires a temporary accommodation of work restrictions.
Coordinates the company's random drug/alcohol testing program.
Enters, tracks and ensures the accuracy of LOA information in the database.
Performs other duties and tasks, as required.
SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field.
Five years of Leave of Absence administration experience or related HR position.
Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA and HIPAA laws.
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner while meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated computer skills preferably spreadsheets, work processing, database and other applicable software programs.
