The Human Resources Intern is responsible for assisting the human resources department in daily operations under a direct supervisor. Duties of a human resources intern include updating employees' information in the databases, responding to employees' concerns, assisting with payroll and benefits related tasks, and reiterating the company's policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsiblities:
New Hire Onboarding
Pre-boarding activities
Coordinating the first day.
HR orientation/presentation.
Managing the paperwork and documentation, including employment agreements and I-9's.
Payroll setups.
Payroll Administration
Prepare and process reports for payroll.
Register company for payroll tax and unemployment tax with various states in which there are employees working.
Assist with paid time off management and absence tracking and reporting.
Assist accounting and Global HR on various reporting.
Answer basis payroll related questions from employees.
Benefits Administration
Assist with benefits orientations and maintenance of employee enrolment in benefits and 401k plans with the carriers and in the benefits platform.
Assist with end of year open enrolment.
Support People Specialist with managing FMLA and leaves of absences.
Manage COBRA eligibility, documentation, and participation for eligible employees.
Answer basic employee questions regarding health insurance, 401k, and employee benefit plans.
Audit benefits and third-party vendor invoices.
General HR
Answer employee questions related to policies.
Perform HRIS data entry in both local and global systems and providing maintenance of the systems.
Ensure all data is error-free, backed up, and stored safely.
Identify and solve any data entry-related issue.
Maintain confidential personnel files.
Respond to reference checks and verifications of employment status.
Maintain organizational charts.
Process requests from federal and state agencies.
Support Workers' Compensation Administration
Learn employment compliance and laws.
Skills & Qualifications:
Background in HR related role or HR field of study, preferred. Or 2 years' experience in an administrative role.
Efficient in MS Office (intermediate level) and database maintenance.
Exceptional detail orientation and prioritization.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and good people skills.
Ability to manage and handle multiple tasks and manage time effectively.
