HR Gray - Construction Manager

This entry-level field-managerial member of the client's representative project team, aiding in the administration of construction projects. Will assist the project management personnel with review of contractors' submittals, requests for information (RFI), change orders, etc. Will collect and organize inspectors' daily reports, logs, sketches, and as-built information to ensure adequate documentation of the construction. As assigned, may coordinate the project's inspection team and provide direction in the field.


  • Assist in administration of project processes including submittals, RFIs, pay applications, and change management.

  • Analyze and understand contract documents including plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.

  • Compile inspection team's field information and produce reports as assigned.

  • Maintain as-built information.

  • Coordinate field inspection teams and materials testing services as assigned.

  • Coordinate with management and engineering staff to develop solutions to field problems.

  • Assist project manager in claims mitigation.

  • Assist project manager in project close-out activities.

  • Operate any radio communications equipment.

  • Operate motor vehicle in field as assigned.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Two (2) years as HRG Construction Inspector II, or BS in Civil Engineering, or Ten (10) years Construction Management experience.

  • Required Certifications: CMIT, or obtain CMIT or FE within One (1) years if new hire CM-I; Desirable Certifications: ACI, NICET, OSHA, ODOT, APWA certifications are pluses.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications Etc..:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to relay information between office and field staff.

  • Excellent math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to work with various project management software systems to administer project processes.

  • Ability to assess and solve problems.

  • Ability to analyze and understand contract documents including plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.

  • Knowledge in areas of design, technology, math, construction, customer service, management and computers.

  • High level of initiative

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Ability to understand and execute the company vision and values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust.

Was wir bieten Covestro is seeking to hire an experienced Principal Construction Manager to lead all construction and turnaround projects at our locations in WV, OH and MA. This position will be located in Pittsburgh and will require travel that could exceed 50%. Candidates for this position should have a BS degree and at least 10 years of experience managing construction and turnaround projects in a petrochemical or refining environment. This position will manage the assignment, execution, and over site of construction partners working on capital projects for Covestro. This will include the use of general discipline, specific & specialty contractors and/or internal resources for planning, execution and closeout of the project. This position will interface with engineering, design, production, and maintenance groups for capital project kick off meetings, progress meetings, and early development phases of major capital projects. This position will be responsible for developing implementation and construct-ability reviews used on all projects in FEL1, 2, 3 and detail engineering to confirm that the scope of work and proper information is available for estimating before moving forward with construction execution. This position is responsible for controlling and managing the field execution, cost, schedule and quality activities to meet the Project Management requirements and Covestro Standards & Guidelines. Candidates will monitor field progress, schedule adherence and cost compliance for field execution of capital projects that will be reported on monthly. This position is responsible for all HSEQ guidelines and will be responsible for implementing them with all external contractors and subcontractors on all capital projects. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum 10 years' experience as project/construction or turnaround manager or High School graduate with equivalent minimum of 20 years' in Industrial Engineering/Construction/Turnaround activities. Preferred Experience: Candidates will be able to provide expertise in construction field activities upfront on projects for safety, cost, schedule and execution prior to AR approval. Have the ability to make day to day decisions on issues in the field based on facts to resolve issues in a timely manner and assist construction managers on making critical decisions. Attend pre-bid meetings to represent Safety and Quality of construction requirements in the NEO Region for Covestro Construction Management and to insure all critical items are covered properly. Work with Procurement on construction contractors needed for all Capital Projects based on the scope, complexity and timing. Provide capital Projects the expertise for installation of modules after fabrication for completion on site. Act as the team leader for safety and quality for the construction management team, employees and contractor companies to meet or exceed goals set by the NEO Covestro sites. Strong supervisory management skills. People development skills – ability to assist in the recruitment and development of all Construction Management Services staffing requirements. Development and training of the construction managers in the constructability analysis and review processes to provide greater input in projects. Always be proactive with team members to provide the required documents and commitments. Maintain key relationships with operations and maintenance organizations in all NEO Facilities to accomplish consistency across all areas.
