Position Summary This position is responsible for Human Resource administration in our New York office. The Human Resources Generalist is the first point of contact for HR customer service in their local office. Working under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource for general HR information, completing various HR administrative tasks, and helping build Firm and office culture.

In addition, the HR Generalist supports the overall goals and activities of the Firm’s HR Department with additional duties as assigned. This role also supports the Office Managers in their HR capacity in other offices across the U.S. Essential Functions Serve as a resource for general HR information, responding to management and employee questions with information and interpretation of human resource policies and procedures, escalating to Director of Human Resources as necessary.

Keep current with state labor laws and notify the Firmwide HR department of any new legal requirements. Respond to ad hoc requests and concerns from attorneys and staff, including the Office Manager, Director of Human Resources, and Chief Human Resources Officer. Work closely with local Office Manager and Legal Recruiting Manager.

Draft welcome emails for all staff hires to be sent to the Office Managing Partner for approval and circulation. With local OfficeManager or designee, coordinate monthly office celebrations including new hires, anniversaries, retirements, holiday and wellness events and social hours. Assist with organizing office sponsored events, including charitable giving campaigns, annual flu shots, health fairs, Wellness Works events, etc.

Assist with Staff Appreciation Week Planning by serving as a member of the Staff Appreciation Committee. Conduct the local portion of new employee orientation and integration, presenting local PowerPoint presentation, answering questions and providing follow-up, if necessary. Follow up with new hires to ensure successful completion of the Proper Workplace Behavior mandatory training.

Serve as team member of various committees (office newsletters, emergency response team, recruiting committee, Community Service Team). Develop Human Resources knowledge (terminology and practices) through professional reading, networking, and formal education. Assist with Firmwide HR projects, as assigned. Support Office Managers in other US offices in HR function as needed.

Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related professional discipline required. Advanced degree and/or professional certifications considered a plus.

Experience: Must have a minimum of 4-7 years demonstrated HR generalist experience experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment. Skills: Strong leadership, management, problem solving, organizational and PC skills. Understanding, influencing and serving others are important attributes in this position.

Must have the ability to select, develop and motivate people and create a positive team environment. The ability to resolve human resource issues quickly and effectively and determine an appropriate course of action for the organization are required. Must be flexible, have well developed interpersonal skills and be able to interact with employees at all levels of the firm as well as vendors and others outside the firm.

Able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to constantly changing priorities. Familiarity/experience with Federal, state, and local regulations. Other Pay Range: $102,000 - $126,000K.

This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith’s pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience. Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Equipment To Be Used: Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, fax, machine, copier, scanner, etc. Typical Physical Demands:

Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment. Typical Mental Demands: Able to work effectively in a fast paced environment.

Make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels.

Working Conditions: You will be required to work in the office at minimum 3 days per week. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.

Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule.
