HR Generalist
Purpose of Role
The GIA HR Generalist serves as a consultant to management and staff on Human Resource issues and provides effective HR services and advice to business leaders, managers, and staff to support the delivery of GIA's objectives and outcomes. This position plays a key role in shaping the experience of our people, primarily in our US corporate and education teams. This role works collaboratively with the business, regions, and other People teams to integrate people and talent strategies with the overall organizational strategy.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Provides HR services to the assigned business teams in all aspects that impact people, organizational dynamics, and engagement to ensure desired/expected talent outcomes are successful.
Partners with line managers to ensure our line managers are equipped to manage their employees.
Provides support and guidance to employees based on policies, management of LOAs, Workers' compensation questions, and benefits.
Consult and provide HR guidance and policy interpretation to management and staff. Collaborate and solicit guidance from in-house legal, compliance, and outside legal as needed.
Work with HR Business Partner to manage and resolve routine employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements, trends, and best practices related to the day-to-day management of employees in California and North America to minimize legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention. Communicate needs proactively to the HR department to advance integrated solutions.
May assist with international Human Resource responsibilities.

Facilitates human capital/workforce planning
Enters and updates employee and contingent worker data into GIA's enterprise resources (ERP)
Facilitates thorough and effective onboarding and off-boarding, including conducting new hire orientation and exit interviews.
Process unemployment notices in a timely and effective manner. Attend unemployment hearings as needed.
Facilitate human capital requests, including writing job descriptions.
Generates forms, letters, templates, etc.
Ensures the successful rollout of department initiatives.
Understands, remains informed and current on all talent and performance processes (E.g., Connect, Compensation Management) and ensures managers and employees understand the processes, roles, responsibilities, and the "why" behind the processes.
Deeply understands and engages with our long-term business goals, current organizational strengths and challenges, and opportunities for us to close the gaps
Takes appropriate risks, provides candid observations, challenges assumptions and positively influences others
Develops and maintains a deep understanding of people, business needs, challenges, and opportunities and proactively creates strategies to address and improve the people experience.
Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies.
Implements a people plan with the relevant teams and under the guidance of the People Partner, US Labs, drawing on data including people analytics and employee surveys
Listens, observes, diagnoses, and provides feedback to ensure the appropriate services and support are in place for the business as it relates to the employee experience
Ensures effective change management and communication strategies and plans are in place to support strategic and operational change
Leads and/or assist with project and change management activities.
Leads engagement and outreach with business teams to stay informed. Brings topics, concerns, and opportunities to relevant people teams for input and solutions
In collaboration with the business recommends and implements strategic and operational change management interventions, activities, and plans
Champions and implements change approaches that take into account diverse stakeholder needs and perspectives
Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure corporate-wide changes made to the organization's policies and procedures are communicated internally
Evaluates the effectiveness of change initiatives and partners with the business and Centers of Expertise to modify strategies as needed.
Who You Are
Domain / Technical Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject, e.g., Human Resources, or Business administration
Human resources generalist experience (typically 2-3+ years) gained in a mid-sized organization and ideally a high-production corporate environment or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations including CFRA, FMLA, and Workers' Compensation required.
Professional Human Resources (PHR or PHR-CA, SHRM CP) or equivalent preferred.
A trusted advisor and team member who maintains professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
HRIS proficiency as demonstrated by experience entering and managing transactions in an HRIS, pulling or creating customized reports, understanding and improving transactional workflow

Business and Industry Acumen

Intermediate level computer skills, using software such as Microsoft Office Suite, e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and e-mail. Experience with spreadsheets, databases, cloud-based platforms, and virtual meeting platforms.
Location Requirements
Onsite presence in Carlsbad, CA is required, although there may be flexibility.
Some travel outside of Carlsbad, CA may be necessary to support teams in New York, New Jersey, and other locations as relevant.
Key Relationships
Reports to the Sr. Manager of Human Resources
Directly supports US corporate and education teams in Carlsbad.
Works collaboratively and builds strong working relationships across internal (including as a partner to COEs) in a diverse, global workforce with multiple teams from operations to research
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable)
Work is performed in a designated professional office workstation and environment.
Extensive use of office equipment to include computer, calculator, copier, fax, and other business related machines and software.
Pay range: $66,000 - $78,000
