The HR Generalist performs human resources-related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, labor relations, affirmative action and employment equity programs.

Essential Functions

  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and other government regulations.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
  • Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints.
  • Owns the unemployment process including representing the company for any unemployment claims.
  • Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce.
  • Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants to fill entry-level, professional and technical job openings.
  • Reviews applications and interviews applicants to match experience with specific job-related requirements.
  • Maintains working relationship with management/senior management and adheres to company policy and procedure by monitoring day-to-day implementation of policies concerning wages, hours and working conditions.
  • Represents management in investigating, answering and settling disputes, by arranging and scheduling between the employee and the supervisor and management team.
  • Responds to all EEOC and NLRB charges.
  • Conducts new-hire orientation.
  • Maintains all employee and applicant documentation as dictated by governing agencies. Including I9s and E-Verify
  • Owns all aspects of the workers compensation process.
  • Benefits administration for CM Management/The Charta Group and its DBAs.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervision responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.


Local travel to various worksites is required.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or a related field or equivalent education, training and experience.
  • Two to four years of experience in human resource generalist role.
  • Background in employment law and other government compliance regulations.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
Additional Eligibility Qualifications

1. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months.

Job Summary Job Summary: Working as the HR Manager, your primary focus will be to support the Human Resources function so that it meets both the needs of the business and of our associates. The HR manager will take the lead role in all of the following functional areas: associate relations, HR specific training, HR legal requirements and compliance, development and revision of HR policies and procedures, associate engagement survey action plan follow up, performance and merit increase monitoring, hiring non-exempt associates and managing data associated with bonus administration. Key Responsibilities: * Ensures all Company HR related policies are applied consistently. * Objectively coaches associates and management through complex and difficult issues. Provides guidance to management on appropriate disciplinary action. Assists with on-site investigations. * Oversees MyOpportunity for hourly recruitment and onboarding. * Maintains and coordinates associate recognition programs. * Ensures compliance with all federal and state laws. * Regularly runs and/or reviews HR activity reports. * Supports internal customer survey and associate engagement survey interpretation/feedback process. * Attends department manager meetings to increase HR visibility, conducts classroom training, provides assistance and implements HR initiatives. * Reviews any request for pay increases or other status changes to ensure internal equity and consistency. Process status change forms. * Prepares, coordinates and presents HR related topics and other HR related training. * Acts as the diversity champion by leading assigned tasks and corporate diversity activities including diversity recruiting, retention and promotion goals. * Assists in the creation of Personal Development Plans, as appropriate, for associates. * Participates in the Annual Performance Appraisal process. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in HR or related field required; Master's degree preferred. * PHR or SPHR designation strongly preferred. * Three plus years human resources generalist experience required; management experience a plus. * HR experience at a large, multi-unit organization required. * Previous experience as part of a centralized HR environment, preferably in a corporate setting. * Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills; advanced skills preferred. * Experience responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. * Strong presentation skills required. * Training certification a plus (i.e. Zenger-Miller, Stephen Covey, etc.).
